Roof Pillars and Roof skin Reapir
Has anyone ever tried to repair the top parts of the upper winsheild pillar? I have some pretty massive holes whrere the seam is on the drip rails and would like to repair it before i just scrap the whole cab. The roof skin is also in pretty bad shape and im sure that LMC offers it but can anyone advise on how they fit?

Too bad you aren't close to Iowa, I have a complete cab roof I would give you. I have seen some threads on replacing those panels but I didn't read them. You would probably get more help if this was moved to the "Paint & Bodywork" forum.... LockDoc

Re: Roof Pillars and Roof skin Reapir
I have replaced both the passenger pillar and the roof skin on my truck. It is a big job for sure. The trickiest part was finding a good replacement pillar. I lucked out and found a cab that was almost completely rotted except for the pillar I needed.
The replacement roof skin fit pretty well I did have to trim it a bit but it dropped right in and the 3m panel adhesive took up any small gaps left. Here are a few pics of the work. |

Re: Roof Pillars and Roof skin Reapir
Most repairs i have read on this forum call for cutting the A pillars about 3" down and a choosing a place on the back window area to cut it and replacing the whole roof section. One guy cut the rear of the cab just a couple inches above the floor and did some fancy cutting in the door jamb area to retain his stock vin plate
I have also seen where the owner pulls the window out (you will probably find more rust in the lower corners) hand fabricates a patch sections and welds them in place and welds all the overlapping seams shut, i would also suggest treating the rust with an encapsulator of some kind to stop the rust. I did see one on the build section recently where they did just the pillar section and grafted the section to the inner liner, window frame and maybe re-skin the whole roof?
