You would not believe the looks on the way home

Yesterday I picked up this cab from a board member (Thanks zamboni2354! ) that had some funky patches and a bunch of rust but the floor piece I need was great. It also came with a roof section that is much needed.

Well...... you would not believe the looks on the way home, on the freeway through Orange County there were 2 different cars that my son watched that stayed close and took pictures. Going through Corona, several stares. Pulled into Home Depot in Temecula to get a couple things on the way home and this guy grabbed his wife by the shoulders and twisted her around and then pointed while saying "Look, Look".... then as we parked this guy that looked in his 60's had his grandson and told him... look, its a truck in a truck. Then getting Gas before the 45 minute drive up into the hills home a guy walks up and says it looks like a 70 Ford cab, when I smiled and told him it was a Chevy he said it is just like the Ford he had and kept insisting it was a Ford.

I felt like such a redneck

I've taken pics of what I considered "weird loads" before. I wouldn't think this qualified but someone clearly did. LOL

I hope you get your truck all fixed up.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I've drug home short beds upside down in my truck a few dozen times , drug 3 frames home from southern Ga on my car trailer and some people look at you like " Honey , He must have lost his mind !" I've had other people ask if I was a metal scrapper when I had a truck load of solid doors and even been asked a few times "Why bother fixing up an old truck when they sell brand new ones ?"

Re: You would not believe the looks on the way home

Waaaaay back when, in between my junior senior year in high school.
I went on a road trip back to Minnesota with my dad. He had left a '57 Chevy convertible from when we moved to Oregon, we brought it back using a tow bar.
We got everything, honks, thumbs up, waves, people yelling Wooooo out their windows.
A gas station attendant said, "Cool lookin' space ship man".
Its an adventure I'll never forget.

Re: You would not believe the looks on the way home

i think its because here in CA the majority of "truck owners" never actually use their trucks as trucks! My old neighbor would buy a new truck every few years and the beds were IMMACULATE, not a scratch or chip on the paint. On the last one he bought he got a bed liner 'just in case' he decided to put something in it.

I live in a little town with no traffic lights, moved here with my grandparents 49 years ago when I was 4 and been here ever since. When I was a kid the sign entering town said population 1,300.... just over 3,000 now. I don't think I could ever live where people are close.

When I bought my "Basket case '71" almost 3 years ago, I rented a 17 foot U haul truck to bring it all home, and that wasn't enough. I had to rent a car trailer to bring home the extra chassis and parts truck I got in the deal, I bet I had ten or more people stop me and asked if I wanted to sell it all...well all I could say was I just bought it only minutes ago, sorry.....man it was hot that day, July 5th, 2013... my Son and I spent the entire day loading box upon box, upon box into that truck, sweating our backsides off...
But, I'm seeing light at the end of the proverbial tunnel !!! Great story by the way!

Re: You would not believe the looks on the way home

It's good for the straight and narrow to turn their heads every now and then. Just because you know how to live by what you like and seek to accomplish it by your own means, it doesn't make you a redneck. It makes you on a level above their self-limitations. There hasn't been a TV commercial showing it, yet, I guess. It makes me feel more alive than the people pointing and commenting. I feel on top of the world at times like this.
