JRLOOS12 1949 Army Suburban - Bagged & Patina'd

1949 Chevrolet Suburban 3100 Carryall - Army Edition
(Follow build on Instagram Also!! @JRLOOS12)

I picked this up from a guy out of Sealy, TX. It sat for the past 5 years and I finally got him to sell it to me... well trade actually. I traded him for some guns, so no cash out of my pocket. We both left with smiles on our faces, so it was a good trade. Of course, I got my dad and my boys involved with the transaction.

Plans:
Leave the Patina & Olive Drab paint (Polish it up & rust repair/prevention)
Replace broken glass
Replace window seals
Powdercoat Trim, Grille & bumpers Metallic Bronze
LED headlights

Modern seats with Rustic Interior (Saddle Brown Leather)
AutoMeter "American Muscle" Gauges

S10 Frame Swap
Airbagged
Little Larry's "Fourplay" Valve Unit.
22" Rear Wheels, 20" Front
87 Suburban Gas Tank (25 Gallon)
Duramax Swap/LS Swap - Still Undecided, although I am leaning towards LS due to money/time & ease of swap...

The day we Picked it up! (3/6/2016) - My Dad, Me, My two boys (pics to follow)

I cleaned it up a bit. Degreased the engine. Pressure washed inside and out.

Disassembly starts this weekend.

Wow, Great place to start. I'd do bad things to find one that nice near here.

Re: JRLOOS12 1949 Army Suburban - Bagged & Patina'd

Advanced Design, i read through your entire build today... So much inspiration! Your burb is definitely gonna be sweet! I hated to see you sell the 36, and I'm relieved for you and your wife regarding her health! God is Great!

My 8 year old son and I came up with a project name for the burb. SERGEANT SLAM. I think it stuck.

I am really excited about this build. I have a lead on an S10 Chassis that is already bagged and set up for LS motor... just need to build the body mounts.

Task Force, I just finished the interior and bagging the tow pig. I nicknamed it Tarnished Penny. It needs a fresh motor, but it runs and drives for now, so I'm driving it. I really don't tow with it, I just used it to pull the burb down to the barn, so I can start disassembly this weekend.

Re: JRLOOS12 1949 Army Suburban - Bagged & Patina'd

Task Force, I think you will really like my next project... hopefully, i can pick this one up in a couple weeks!

1955 Chevrolet Cameo. It is the same year as when my dad was born, so it has a lot of sentimental value to me. I learned to drive on my dad's '55 chevy street rod puckup. I'd love to buy that truck back!
Anyways, enjoy!

For some reason, the pictures disappeared from the first post, and it won't allow me edit it right now, so here are the pics from when we picked it up.

My dad, me, and my two boys, 8 and 4.

Pics of where it sat when I found it

Re: JRLOOS12 1949 Army Suburban - Bagged & Patina'd

Not much progress on the Suburban, other than working on the S10 Chassis for the swap. I have been going back and forth on drivetrain. I really want to put the Duramax/Allison under it... We'll see.

Parts list of S10 Components:
Custom Back-half (ART Chassis Mandrel rails)
Michigan Metal Works Arms
Slam Specialties RE7 Bags
All New Bearings, Ball joints & bushings
McGaughys Drop Spindles
Blazer brakes
Viair Tank & Components
Magnaflow Mufflers
LS mid-length headers
LS Motor Mounts
20" Foose Wheels (For Sale)
Fuel Cell

It's my other project that I recently finished up. 1971 C20 converted to Six lug, 350/350, bagged, all new suspension, new interior... It's a solid cruiser.

Re: JRLOOS12 1949 Army Suburban - Bagged & Patina'd

I received my rendering from KEG Media today. I am so ready to finish this thing now!!!

I am picking up my Duramax/Allison donor vehicle tomorrow. Pics attached. I went on Tuesday and made a deal with the guy that owns it right now. It is super clean and only has 250K on the clock. He started it after it had been sitting for over two months... no smoke! No Blowby! I will be getting a Standalone Harness built for it. This weekend, I plan to get the donor bus home, get the frame finish welded, and get measurements for body mounts.

Nice, I like the rendering! About what I am going for except with rusty purple color and with air police on the doors...I think, been so long since I've seen them I don't remember....

Congrat's on the Duramax find.
