High quality fleetside chrome bumper 1958/1959
I wondered if anyone has had a positive experience with any of the vendors that sell the reproduction chrome fleetside bumpers. I don't want to shell out the money and end up with a poor quality product.

Beanyard, I picked up rear and front bumpers from brothers a couple years ago. The stuff is driver quality chrome, not show quality like you expect from a chrome shop, but nowhere near the price either. I only buy stuff from brothers when they have a sale, which is in the spring usually. I think I paid around 150 per bumper.

Meter Swinger,
I was in your neck of the woods yesterday visiting PNNL. I thought of you but couldn't remember your avatar name. Thanks for the great info. I will check out brothers'. I wonder if all these vendors get the bumpers from the same place. Best Regards, Derek

NOT Crank them down or use an impact wrench when installing them as it would void the warranty because the bumpers were made thinner then a stock bumper and if you cranked the bumper bolts down it would distort the metal and actually put a ring around the bolt area and could crack the chrome. just passing on what they told me! they are a nice bumper and look good on the trucks but no were near what a factory one can look like from a reputable chrome platter. Just saying, Allen |

I got a plain one from Brothers because I intended to cut and fill to make it fit better and put it on upside down anyway. Took it to the plating guy and his first words were"this is a re-pop." Got my education from him. Doesn't matter who you get it from they're all thin and will fold up quicker than a pair of three's in a seven card stud game but hey......it's a toy.

Re: High quality fleetside chrome bumper 1958/1959
My experience isn't with a 58/59, but I did order a bumper from LMC for my 53. They had two options - regular chrome and "premium" chrome for a higher price. I ordered the premium and when it came, it was in a Keystone wrapper - Keystone does really nice show chrome and the bumper was really nice quality. Maybe LMC offers the same option for 58/59.

Re: High quality fleetside chrome bumper 1958/1959
Find a good used one and take it to Ogden chrome. They can straighten, remove scratches, fill holes, etc. They might even have a rep in Idaho Falls or Pocy, I know they have one in Boise, they used to wait until they had a bunch and used their own trucks for shipping to save on costs.
I got a repop for my 64 Chevelle from POL and it was quite a wrestling match to get in installed, everything was just off enough to not fit exactly. It was also noticeably lighter as others had said. Chrome was driver quality and after 5 years has held up ok.
