Blending scratches on tailgate trim

I have a stainless tailgate trim piece that has some light scuffs and I would like to try to get rid of them or at least blend them in a little better. What have you guys used to do this. I tried a Scotch Brite pad with very little results. I was wondering if I needed to remove the anodizing first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I worked on mine, I used a polishing pad that had a small bit of scuff in it. I used Brasso Polish and just worked the polish with the grain of the trim. It didn't get everything out, but it sure made a big difference. I was afraid to get too aggressive. I didn't have a before pic, but this is what it looked like when I was done. if anything, it really cleaned it up alot. I used the same process on my cab trim.
