Correct 305 V6 Air Cleaner Decal?

I decided to take off my air cleaner and strip/repaint and I noticed that there is residue from a rectangular-shaped sticker. If I am going to put time and effort into re-doing it, I might as well do it correct and re-install factory decals/markings.

I have scoured the interwebs and especially this site and have found nothign that gives me a definitive answer. It looks like there was a "front" decal placed on the air cleaners but every source I am finding marks that for V8 motors only. Does anyone have any idea or pics of what the correct sticker would be?

BFoley, would you post a photo of the air cleaner?

And do check out this link of Board Member Jack Palmer's Awesome Truck!

I think the photo you seek may be there.

That style decal did not come into use until 1968 MusicMan70, Also, many of the air cleaner decals had part numbers on them to identify that specific air cleaner and what it was used for.

Theres at least 3 different 66 GMC air cleaners, maybe more. It would help if we could see your air cleaner BFoley.

Here it is (the cover anyway). The sticker residue can be seen a few inches to the right of the intake.

I guess it would be possible that I have and incorrect air cleaner. I doubt it as everything else it has is OE. I guess I need to figure out what other '66 OE air cleaners looks like.

Just checked my owners manual. Here is what is in it.

Still not sure if mine is truly "incorrect" or not.

Edit: Pretty sure this is what it is supposed to have on it.

The original build/spec sheet for the truck doesn't have any info about filter type.

Re: Correct 305 V6 Air Cleaner Decal?

I have seen one other 66 GMC with your style air cleaner. Trying to confirm with him if he believes its original. That air cleaner on the top right of your manual looks identical to what you posted the actual picture of , EXCEPT, it will not have a snorkel on it. That's one version of the three Ive seen. There was one unique to Air Conditioned trucks and then this one seems more common.

I guess I will need to be finding myself one of those then. I actually like that style more (with the ribs on the intake).

That's a Car Quest label on there and the number 20496 . I didn't buy it, it came with the truck.
