49 gmc g100 long bed questions

I just bought a 49 gmc g100 long bed and have a few start up questions.

what is the exact wheelbase and do they make an s10 frame around the same length without me having to cut my bed.

I also need to inquire about cheapish radiator options. I'm going to run the 235 that i got with the truck for the rest of the year until appropriate funds are saved for the off frame build.

Wiring harness.. this truck came with 0 wires in it at all..but the headlights and running lights are already setup for 12v. the gauge lights, not so much. whats the best option here?

lastly, where is everyone getting their patch panels for sheet metal. it came with a left side cowl, but i need rear cab corners as well.

Thanks for someone answering this 8 part question. picks will be coming soon.

Re: 49 gmc g100 long bed questions

longbed wheelbase is 125" unless you have a 9ft bed (very rare, you probably dont). s10 ext cab is 123, close enough for the girls I go out with.

you are going to install the 235 in the s10 frame? that sounds.... interesting. I dont know if the 19x22 universal rad everyone uses with s10 swaps will work with it but I would guess so. you may need some funny looking hoses.

I like bowtiebits for patches, http://www.bowtiebits.com, but they are in town for me.

no not installing the 235 into the s10 frame. i'm just trying to get the truck drivable for now and then tear it down 8 months from now.

Re: 49 gmc g100 long bed questions

s10 frame is a 2 section unit. there is a weld in the rails, just under the area where your feet would be, that can be ground off and then the frame can be slid together or apart to match your required wheel base, within reason. the driveshaft would need to be lengthened as well as the wiring, brake and fuel lines. not too hard though. not sure how much the rails overlap each other but you would find out in a hurry.
try gmupfitter for s10 frame specs.there are blueprint type specs there.

Go over to stovebolt.com, in the tech section they have 12v conversion info.
