AD hood alignment
On my 49 I have this gap in front of the cowl, should the gap be smaller? If so how do I adjust it? Thanks

Re: AD hood alignment
The big thing is how does it fit at the front? Panel fit is all about the WHOLE thing, not just one or another. If you move the hood back to fix that cap the front gap at the fender right above the grille is going to tighten up, big time. The gaps along the fenders are going to widen, big time. So it's about all of them, not just that hood to cowl. If you tighten that gap up you may need to bring the fenders back too. They may also need to be widen them at the front, it may be way more we are talking about than that hood to cowl you have pictured.

Re: AD hood alignment
tough to tell with the pic but some of that could be caused by the hood springs.
They are easy enough to unbolt and see if it is better. If so you might want to think about a hood prop. But to get that back you will have to start out front and get the fenders and grill to move back with the hood. |

Re: AD hood alignment
The hood is forward not up, it has nothing to do with the springs.

Re: AD hood alignment
You have way more than just "hood alignment" you have the whole front end you will need to work with.
To start with, your rad support is over to the right, a lot! That's "right" as you sit in the truck looking forward, "right" is "Passenger" side. Moving the rad support to the left may fix most of the problem but it may also need to go down, or the cab up. The whole fender rad support also looks like it needs to go back. Brian

Re: AD hood alignment
On a stock truck it would be the two bolts at the bottom of the support to the frame. But I will put money on it you have a sub frame under it or something like that. So I can't explain without some photos of where it mounts. But basically you need to loosen up the rad support and move it. This often would also take loosing up fender to cab bolts and fender to rad support bolts.

That is what you do before paint, now, you are going to want to do a little dance with all the parts. Move the rad support over, move the hood a little better, see where you are, move it a little more, check the hood, and on and on. This is going to be a little project. Brian

Re: AD hood alignment
"Move the hood a little better" is that by using the method with the wood block in the video above?

Re: AD hood alignment
I'll have to watch that video when I have sound as I don't right now. I don't understand it at this point how is he tightening the bolts when it moves?
Don't try to explain, I'll just watch it later. I do know one thing, I don't know how in the living hell you end up with a stunningly painted cab (dig that firewall!) while having the front fenders and hood unpainted? HUH???? But I will watch it tonight and get a better idea. Brian

Re: AD hood alignment
That one photo tells us as close to nothing as you can get. It looks more like something is holding up that side of the hood at the grille like too long of a rubber bumper or something, that is ALL it tells us.
