Re: Pic for WreckedChevy
Hood hinge "after."
Now here is the problem with my electrolysis. I never got much off with electrolysis alone. I had to follow up with Evaporust but the results were amazing. Evaporust alone wasn't as great either but when combined, the electrolysis seemed to loosen things and then the Evaporust took it right off. That limited me to such things as brackets, etc. Largest thing I ever ran was the battery tray. ![]() |

Re: Pic for WreckedChevy
I had trouble getting a correctly-size container for the Evaporust soak, so I'd force the fluid level up with concrete blocks and plastic bottles, filled of course. *I found that concrete blocks began to break down in the Evaporust. but plastic bottles were fine.

Re: Pic for WreckedChevy
I had really good luck with the inside of the fender then I flipped it over to start getting rid of the four layers of paint and after about 5 hours the tank collapsed. it did manage to get rid of about 10-15% of the paint before it went. kind of want to rebuild and try again but i'm just going back to old fashioned sanding for now.

Re: Pic for WreckedChevy
Tank collapsed? Sounds messy!
Water is just so heavy. A tank must be very well braced to hold up. I told you about how I braced my tubs for that. I think sand blasting (media blasting) and wire brushing are much, much more effective and faster but if one cannot blast or the brush cannot reach an area, then electrolysis and evaporust is an alternative. I wish I could have gotten my electrolysis to work on its own without the Evaporust, it would have kept costs way down. |

Re: Pic for WreckedChevy
I just wanted to try it out because I have 2 more stepside fenders that need stripped and I have way more free time than money so figured why not. I purposely put it right in front of the garage door so if it did fall apart all the water would go down the sloped driveway. I just finished sanding the outside of that one and dropped it off with eric to finish a few areas with sand blasting then he'll hammer out a few dents and epoxy it for me. and then finally 20 years later no more spare tire fender

Re: Pic for WreckedChevy
"No more spare tire fender?" Why would you want to do that?
Spare tires belong on the side so you don't have to get down in the dirt to get your spare. Have you been listening to me at all???? ![]() Most people seem to want to hide that spare, I want mine right where I can get at it, although, lifting that steel rimmed monster back up there when I get the other plugged is going to be a bit of a workout. ![]() |

Re: Pic for WreckedChevy
you actually have a spare? ha ha I have a broken jack and a tire iron. my spare has turned into hard plastic from all those years sitting in the sun hanging on the side of the box instead of chilling under the bed in the shade... ha ha
