'88 3500 4 x 4 specs?
1988 gmc c/k 3500 4wd. Has a 454 and automatic. What transmission would this have? What front suspension? Transfer case? Gearing options ? Etc. I have searched the web and can't find possible specs. Any help is greatly appreciated !

Re: '88 3500 4 x 4 specs?
If it's a K3500 the transmission is a TH400. The transfer case is probably a NP208, but could be a NP205. The 205 is cast iron and has a PTO plate on the driver side. There should be an ID tag/badge on the back. I don't think GM made any RH drop NP205s, but could be wrong. Your ratio will likely be 3.73 but could be 4.10

I agree with the TH400
Most likely you have a 241 transfer case. There should be a little tag on the back of it. The 205 and 208 used on gm trucks are RH drop. And 88 is LH. Front suspension is plain old torsion bar, nothing fancy about it. |

Actually don't have the truck, looking at buying it and it is a long way from home. Not that familiar with this style. First year of IFS I believe ?

Yes IFS. I had two of these trucks and kick myself for getting rid of them. First one one I had I did an SAS on it, 454, 400, Ford 205, 14ff, HP60 40" boggers. Truck was fun. 2nd was stock sorta, body lift and t-bar cranked and running 35s...I like those "old" trucks.....

Re: '88 3500 4 x 4 specs?
I figured it would have a NP241, but I looked them up and it said '89 was the first year. I know we always look for the '89 units for the cable speedo. If they were used in '88 then why not look for that year NP241s? I just read another site that says they came out in '87, so I guess it would have one
