What to do with a inline 6

Pulling a inline 6 and 3 speed from my 1968 c10. What should I do with them. Should I keep the six since its original or scrap it.

Re: What to do with a inline 6

Whatever you do....don't scrap it.
Those inline 6's are great little motors and a lot of guys are looking for them.
Personally, I would prep and store it if it was the original engine for the truck.
If you are going to sell it...give it a compression test before pulling and posting it and you'll get a better response from possible buyers.
again tho'....don't scrap it, that would be a waste of a great little motor.

I agree, please do not scrap it.
Document as much as possible and store best as you can.
There is someone looking for that 'exact' engine, trust me.

Re: What to do with a inline 6

This is easy! You should give that engine and tranny to me: in fact, I'm rather surprised no one has already told you.

You should also pay for the shipping since it's always good to be nice. LOL

Plenty of members on here would want that set up. For a time I wanted to remove my 3 speed on the column and my 250 I6 and replace those with a 4 speed floor shifter and 283 V8 but now I have zero desire to do all of that. If my 250 ever goes out I'll try and find a 292 to put in there. As long as it lasts, the manual on the column will stay also: it's a blast to drive, is different, and provides a sort of "built-in theft protection."

Re: What to do with a inline 6

Depends on what you want to do with it. If it's an around a towner-keep the six and bling it out with offy valve cover, headers, etc? They're a bullet-proof cool engine in my opinion.

They are a unique twist in the sea of shows with V8's. Keep it.

It seems everyone is currently stuck on the LS cool aid and pulling the 6's and old V8's and 3 speeds . You would be best served to keep the 6 or whatever stock engine/trans your pulling out and save it for the next owner who just may WANT to put it back to stock . I know no one ever plans on selling their truck but your grand kids just may rather have the next newest hover car instead of an old truck .They all get sold at some point be it next week or 20 years from now (if you can still buy gas) their always worth more when they come with the stock components .

Keep them, don't scrap them. In time we learn what we scrapped is always sought after. Every single one of these trucks came with a set of steelies. Here we are now and we have people digging hard for these common parts. Right up until lately I heard all over, "I always scrap those"

I pulled my origial 250 w/power steering and replaced it with a 350. I wish I had kept the 250 in there

Keeping it will not add much value later if you go to sell in my opinion. Something neat to have but there would not be so many pulled sixes/3OTT on craigslist if anybody really cared. More likely the next owners would get tired of storing it and have the same decision. Just my opinion though.

Re: What to do with a inline 6

...unless the buyer "wants" a 6 specifically and can only find V8 trucks.

For years it seemed everyone was pulling the 6s to put n a V8. For years people were cutting doors for speakers and tops for sunroofs, too. Now we cuss them, and now you see a bigger movement toward people "wanting" a 6 back in their truck, for many reasons. Some want the cool factor vintage speed thing, some just want it original, some want better mileage, and some still want trucks simple

Everyone wants someone else to keep the 6s alive. Kudos to the guys that have them though. Still no love for 307s though. :-)

I still want to keep them alive ,I have a few and would love a few more .I'm also willing to bet that more guys will consider keeping them once gas goes back to $4.50 a gallon .

Keep the motor and trans, they don't take that much room. Prep 'em and bag 'em...

Re: What to do with a inline 6

Keep the 6. Put a clifford intake and headers on it.

If it's a 292, bore that sucker out and put 350 pistons in it. It will pass most v8's on the road.

Re: What to do with a inline 6

The Chevy 6 has been widely used in many applications other than the cars and trucks. I remember that was popular swap for Land Rovers in the 60-70s. Many earlier Chevys get swaps to later 6s, too. The old parts off these trucks deserve more respect than to be turned in for scrap.

A buzzin' half dozen can roll on down the track
