Back Up Light Switch

Hello, everyone! I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping I'm posting in the correct section. I have a 1995 Chevy Cheyenne K1500. 4x4 5 Speed manual. 305 engine. My reverse lights quit working. I seen where the back up light switch may be bad. So I removed it, took it to Advance Auto and got a new one. I installed it, and still no reverse lights. I did check everything else such as fuses and the reverse light plugs. Fuses were good, but no power at reverse light plugs. Next, I unscrewed the switch and plugged it up. Then I manually pushed on the end of the switch that goes into the transmission, and the lights came on. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm afraid that whatever is in the transmission that pushed on this is broken. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! -Justin (trucker37841)
