Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

Hey guys. Thinking about running a boyd welding tank in my 55 Second Series. I have C4 rear suspension and curious if it will clear the rear sway bar. Would really love to see pictures of one installed in one of our trucks to see how it fits.

Here you go rude dude. They make the best looking tank in my opinion. Just curious how it would fit around my sway bar.

Definitely a nice looking tank but I wonder why th site shows it mounting to the bottom flange of the frame when it looks like it could be as easily mounted on the upper flange and be tucked up nice and tight and out of site.

Yes, doing it that way WOULD make it harder to drop if you ever needed to...but then again, how often do you ever need to remove your gas tank?

Re: Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

design to work on it, i'd hate to pull the bed to remove the fuel tank

i run a similar no limit engineering tank on truk with an in tank pump
coming home to detroit from dallas, tx in nashville, tn i had the hose to the pump fail
i dropped the tank, fixed the hose and was back on the road
a year later the pump failed near the house, i've dropped my tank 4x since getting it on the road

I have a simular tank and it goes under the cross brace behind the rearend. You would have to take it out to mount it above the frame.

This one is less in price and works good in a TF Truck.

Rudy, Have you used the Tanks, Inc. one?

It looks like that Mustang tank mounts on top of the frame top flange, doesn't it? I like the price and that its 22 gallons!

I used one in my 48 truck and it worked well. This one is revised and has a more user friendly fuel fill.

Re: Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

I cant mount on the top rail due to the C4 sway bar being there.

Re: Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

Maybe it will mount on bottom of bottom
flange? I'd use some 1/8"X1-1/4" strap under the bolts though if I did that just to keep the tank sheet metal from tearing through over time. Just not sure if if would hang too low though? Excellent price I think.

Re: Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

The price is great on the mustang tank. Here is a picture of my frame and how the C4 sway bar mounts. I have already removed the rear cross member so, I can bolt it in wherever when I mount the tank.

Re: Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

That is a great looking chassis Chief! In case you didn't notice, Tanks lists the LxWxD dimensions for all their tanks for you to compare and measure for fit. Unfortunately they don't have it all on one spreadsheet.

Re: Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

Chief, Yes your frame looks nice. Maybe I missed it: Is it powder coated or painted? If painted what did you use?

Re: Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

I'll get the measurements and see if it will clear. The frame is powder coated. I have a build thread going on as well.

Re: Anyone running a boyd welding fuel tank?

As promised, here are some pictures. I have to say after being let down time and time again by aftermarket quality, the boyd tank really impressed me. I would say it was well worth the $448. Came with everything pictured minus the bolts to mount it. I used some nice polished stainless bolts and toolbox drawer liner between the fuel tank and frame to act as an anti-squeak. The welds and finish are spectacular and I was able to clear the sway bar. Doesn't hang to low in my opinion and the best part is its made right here in the Good Ole USA, down in Florida.
