temp gauge not working
I have an'86 4x4 with a 350. Since it is kinda getting nice out a few days here and there I have been doing a few cheap fixes on my truck. I was having a problem with my truck over heating and narrowed it down to the thermostat not working properly. I got a new one and installed it over the weekend. Now my temp gauge doesnt work and it seems like I have no heat. Everything worked perfectly fine before. Is there something that I messed up or is it some fluke with the gauge?

Re: temp gauge not working
There's been other threads on this subject before. So you changed out the temp sensor on the engine block, correct? From the other threads I have read up before in the past, it's because of the sensor itself. You have to make sure you get the right one to work with the original temp gauge in your dash. I'll see if I can find those threads and post the links.

Re: temp gauge not working
I had a 180 in there to begin with and it worked great. But in the Wyoming winter I was thinking if I put a 190 or 195 it would work better warming up faster and to a bit higher temp. But I think the one I put in was faulty and the temp would get up to 240 or so in like a 3 mile drive. So I put the 180 back in there this weekend and went for a drive and noticed that the gauge never got off 0 degrees and I didnt have any heat either which I had before.

Re: temp gauge not working
The temp sensor on the engine block is what sends the temp to the gauge on your dash. I had an aftermarket sensor and i went back to the original (new) sensor so my temp guage on my dash starting working again.
Its on the left side of the engine between the plugs. There should be a single green wire attached to the tip of the sensor. |
