Heartthrob Exhaust Clearance
Picked up a Heartthrob dual exhaust. Its part number 4143sk. Has the pipes coming out at an angle behind the back tires. Uses their offset turbo mufflers.
Here are the instructions they provided. Heartthrob Exhaust Instructions I couldn't seem to get the orientation of the mufflers as they show it. Guess I could go try but it seemed that the output pipe was going to hit the rear shock. With it flipped the other way from what they show, everything fit but the tail pipe was aimed up So I have the drivers side done. I think. I am worried that the pipe may be too close to the back tire and the rear hard brake line on the axle. I can move the entire exhaust around and it doesnt make contact with anything. I am just worried about how close it is. Here is the pic of how close it is to the rear brake hard line. Doesn't look like it will make contact with it when the axle moves up and down. I am worried about heat off the pipe messing something up. Here is my clearance to the tire. again, it wont hit. I am worried about heat. I dont think the stock hanger location is going to work for me here. I may have to move it. But for now thats where is ended up. To get the tail pipe to not come out at an upward angle, I had to turn the muffler side ways so its taller than it is wide. This made the tail pipe level but overall I am worried its too close to things. And overall, I cant slide it back any further because it will hit the bracket for the track bar. That is with the muffler in its current orientation. If I turn it so the muffler is flat, I may get a little more clearance to move it all back a little. Re: Heartthrob Exhaust Clearance
The instructions on mine mention the fact you may need extra pipe to accommodate your wheelbase. It looks to me like the tailpipe needs to come back a few inches. With the track bar bracket that may be hard to do. I would try installing the tailpipes then see what you need.

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust Clearance
Yeah thats what I thought. it just needs to come back slightly. I think there is enough length of pipe in the muffler to slide it out enough to make up an inch, but it isnt going to clear the track bar bracket.
In those picks, everything is installed from the manifold back including the tail pipe. just the drivers side that is. Found another thread HERE where someone had to mount the mufflers on the edge like i did. maybe if I rotate the connector before the muffler inbound to the center of the truck some, it will move the muffler in towards the middle and give me a little clearance to slide back an inch or so. i just got so tired from laying on my back working on the thing for so many hours that I dont have it in me at the moment to got fuss with it. When I get back from vacation I will work on trying to get it all apart and adjusted some more. |

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust Clearance
in 31+ years working in a muffler shop i've seen one or maybe two "kits" that actually fit without some "tweaking". i just had a customer with a chrysler 300 SRT8 that ordered a 3 inch mandrel bent kit from jegs that had 2 left hand tailpipes and no righthand at allhad an axle back flowmaster kit for a 15 mustang that the righthand muffler was completely wrong-the left side fit perfectly. i've seen kits from flowmaster, borla, corsa etc. and all need tweaking sometimes.

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust Clearance
Wow. Sorry I havent updated this thread. Need to add to my build as well.
So after about ~25 hours of work I finally have the exhaust done. I had some other troubles unrelated to the kit but that only accounted for about 3 hours or so. In the end, i had to cut off where the pipes exit and just dump behind the rear axle. i could not get all the components to align in such a way that the pipes came out straight. The drivers side hangs about 2 inches lower than the passenger side. On the passenger side, the clearance between the down pipe, starter and one of the hard brake lines is so close I am actually a little worried. I may have to take the pipe out again and bang a big ol' dent in it to give me more brake line clearance. Here is a shot showing how far the driver side hangs down compared to the passenger. this is with the heat riser valve removed. More pics. What do yall think? There is about a half inch or so between the pipe and the brake line. And maybe a little less with the starter. here are a couple pic of the brake line clearance from a couple angles. And here is one really bad one of the starter clearance. The starter is the black thing on the left. |
