c10 1963 craigslist

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I seen this ad on craigslist the price seems kind of high, but I just want to see

what you all think about it. and he said that there is an oil leak ( probably oil

pan gasket) he states. can it be that simple of a fix? and roughly, how many

mpg will his set up get? 230 inline 6 with 350 tranny. i was also told that

the 2 side cover gaskets will have to be changed. is that a difficult process?

any advice helps thank you.

Truck looks to be in fair shape. Price is high for sure, but people will pay high when it comes to minimum rust. Far as the engine, the 6 cylinder is one of the easiest to work on. To replace the pan gasket you Will need to jack the engine up so the pan will clear. Time consuming, but not to hard. Judging by the fact it still has 3 pedals and a 3 speed column shifter I'm not seeing how that is an Automatic. That seems to have the 3 speed manual. Unless the auto is something that comes With the truck and is not installed. For mileage I'd expect around 12-15. Guys with 230's have been able to achieve pretty good mileage. In my opinion that is a $4000 truck Tops. EDIT. Changing the side cover gaskets is Super easy.

Re: c10 1963 craigslist

I appreciate the info TJ's Chevy. and to clear my confusion, do I have to lift the engine to

change the oil pan gasket, or can I just jack the car up and put on stands? thank you

Putting the car on stands will help. lol But yes you will have to jack the engine Itself up a little bit. Only requires about 1-2 inches. There was a write up on this awhile ago, but I can't remember the name of the thread or member anymore. If the engine is low miles and has good compression I'd consider pulling it out and throwing in a complete gasket set. Can't hurt.

Re: c10 1963 craigslist

Hey buddy. I have a 63' that is almost in the exact same condition and I have a 250 6cyl with a 3 speed. If it is a 3-on-the-tree. Be prepared because these column linkages bind up a lot and are most likely worn out, you'll have to learn how to work then or are willing to have the patience. The 6cyl are EXTREMELY easy to work on, the drive good and are very reliable. But at the same time, you'll might eventually want to upgrade to a SM420 speed tranny or automatic that the owner claims it has. Overall a 63' like that will grow on you and you won't wana let go of it. After all the problems I've had with my truck and fixed, I still won't give it up. But I do agree, I think it is over priced. He wants a lot because it's straight and doesn't have any problems body wise. To me it's a 5,000-6500 car.
Good luck to you.

I like the interior of the truck sheet metal in that it hasn't been carved up or repainted.
The seat material can be redone as well as the sun visors.
Someone has changed out the steering wheel. It should be white, painted from the factory.
The seatbelts look like the Irving Airchute Co. Model 5000 which are correct for 63.
No additional junk under the hood that's not supposed to be there.
Original Air cleaner for 63 with the concave center.
The Air Flow standard heater has been bypassed, it'll need a new core?
Correct arm rests for 63, nice accessory.
Correct Rear view mirror, another accessory.
Never came with chrome mirror arms and chrome mirrors.
The aftermarket gauge setup could go the wayside.
Best to check the roof to drip rail line above the windshield, it can rust in those areas.
Wrong year hubcaps and it never came with beauty rings.

I like it.
If you get it at a reasonable price, a nice daily driver for now, with a quick rattle can paint job.
