Coil versus Leaf Spring 2WD Frame Question

I've been looking for a shortbed frame to replace my long bed and I think I finally located one but I'm not sure if it was coil or leaf (I have submitted the question to the seller). Question I have is what is the difference between the coil and leaf 2WD frames? It looks like the rear cross member above the axle is different than the one with coil pockets on my current frame (which is rusted anyway).

If it is leaf, can I source a new coil cross member and replace the leaf one?

Any other differences I need to be aware of like engine cradle, etc? I already know not to get a 67 frame since it does not have the dimple for power steering.

This is the frame:

Re: Coil versus Leaf Spring 2WD Frame Question

I almost purchased this frame last weekend. Its a good frame and you should be able to transfer all your long bed hardware to it. It does not have the rear track bar mounts on the crossmember which led me to believe it was a leaf spring frame but has some differences to my leaf spring frame. There is no cradle up front but the engine mounts are there. Still will make you an excellent frame for a swb truck.

that looks like a leaf spring frame that is also missing some crossmembers and bed mounts

but, if you have a coil frame now, all that stuff will swap over to the new frame

Re: Coil versus Leaf Spring 2WD Frame Question

Yeah, I no longer have my old long bed frame it was beyond toast from North East salt. Think I'll keep on looking....I'd rather not have to piecemeal the thing together and figure out which brackets/cross members are missing.

My "weight reduction" Old longbed Frame

I have extra coil spring frame parts if you need some / trailing arms / spring crossmembers / body mounts / etc
