Picked up a T221 T case... can they handle 400hp ?

Sure!
Until it breaks anyway.
But realistically with new properly preloaded bearings and seals it is almost as strong as a NP205, Just noisier and runs hotter.
So if you would run a 205, it might work for you.

It's more about torque than horsepower and I would guess the torque rating to be in the mid 400's sustained.

Just keep in mind that t case has no aftermarket at all for it,So if you break it or need a seal good luck on that.

Seals and bearings are easy to get, hard parts now that's another story!

definitely save it. I just picked up a nice original low mileage one yesterday for 50.00. They are not rare or worth much but for those of us who like the original stuff its nice too have spare parts.
