What would you pay? 72 GMC SWB Base

Hey guys, I am looking at buying a truck and not sure what it's worth. It's a 1972 GMC SWB base model. Very few options. TH350 and straight 6. Original Orange paint. Was a fleet truck for a city close to me, been parked for a long time. I will mention I am up in Canada, so everything will be a little bit more up here than down in the states.

There is very little rust on any of the truck, just a tiny bit on the cab corners and rockers. The paint is fairly beat up and there are quite a few dents. Unsure if it runs, however it did when it was parked awhile ago.

The guy wants $5500 Canadian for it, so just over $4200 American at today's rate. I know him however, and he may be willing to drop $750 American. So a total of around $3500 for a complete original GMC SWB. What do you guys think? I'll attempt to upload pictures pretty quick here.

I would pay that.
Interesting SPID font for the last 6 of the VIN. I am not alleging any problems with it, I know some factories had a wonky font. Cool truck and cool SPID.

Yeah, there are some weird things that happen on Canadian trucks as well. Most of the Canadian SPIDs I've seen in western Canada have the 6 funny looking numbers. Consider this SPID. Purchased close to the same place, possibly same dealer as well.

Sounds right to me. Depending on what you want to do with it, it's a plus that such a low option truck has the automatic (so you have that crossmember) and the full foam seat (so the fancy covers fit).

Any truck I've seen that was an Oshawa, Ontario build has the last 6 numbers in the same font as this spid. I have a 1/2 dozen archived spies form Oshawa builds and they are all like that.

Re: What would you pay? 72 GMC SWB Base

When I first the pic I figured yep, another 6 cyl granny 4 speed fleet truck and they do not interest me with that combo. Then I saw the spid and whoa, its shows automatic so that for me is a game changer. A reasonably decent short fleet for 4/5000 in Canada that you can pay for in Canadian money with no tax and its near you, what are you waiting for?

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll keep you posted on what happens. I thought it was a good deal but I wasn't sure. Haven't looked at the prices for GMC's and such much. I'll hopefully get more pictures today to post.

One of the interior. We are making a deal this afternoon. He just has to clear it with his old man, as him and the pops bought a couple together. The truck has a radio delete in it. The washer fluid pump still works. The engine turned over super easy, but didn't want to fire it up as the fluids are over 10 years old. Need a new gas tank. Some of the electrical didn't seem to work, but there were a bunch of toast fuses

Well, it's bought and in my driveway. I am super excited to get working on it. Thanks for all the help guys. I will be starting a build thread soon, although I don't know how much work I'll get done in the next few months, but such is life. The truck hasn't been on the road since 1987, so I'm super stoked about how this is all shaping up.
