Shift linkage question
I am replacing my I6 and my 3 speed manual Trans with a 72 350 and a 700R4 from an 86 Corvette. I am having trouble finding a decent priced auto steering column, and when I finally do find one, what is the correct shift linkage to mate these things together?

Re: Shift linkage question
You may have a grander plan but why not use a column shift from a 67-72 or from a van I think up to 1985 with auto column shifting and maybe with tilt? Or ididit or flaming river or other. Some mods would be needed to the lever length on the 700 r4 shifter rod to get the pointer correct. And the 700r4 I believe rotates counterclockwise from Park to D1 but you can feel that out and make an adjustable shifter arm plate if column shifting.
Or you could go with a mega shifter on the floor or similar and keep the column you have. The 3 speed column cup can be modified to have a smooth column.

Re: Shift linkage question
The steering column I am seeking has the auto shift, so it will be column shift (if that is what you meant). Anyone else on here ever use a 86 700r4 with a 72 350?

Re: Shift linkage question
I put a 700R4 behind my 383, the shifter detent plate on mine is well worn, but finding each gear isn't difficult. I'm finding that trying to get the neutral safety switch/reverse light switch adjusted is a real trial and error deal.
I made a custom shift rod with rod end bearings, right hand thread and left hand threads, sort of turnbuckle if you will. Now I just have to find the adjustment to get both neutral and reverse right and I'll be done.... Ben
