Engine pulling points

What is the best point on the 235 for pulling?

Just have the engine in the frame. Head bolts? Head bolt and bell housing?

I used one of the coil mount holes and the intake manifold.

Re: Engine pulling points

I think I used the head bolts on the last one I pulled or installed. If you use one of the bolts on the side, front or back of the engine make sure that the bolt/nut is tight on the piece on the chain so you don't have as much of a chance to snap a bolt off. I've seen a couple of engines that got dropped when a bolt in shear snapped.

Re: Engine pulling points

I used the intake/exhaust manifold with a chain wrapped through it and bolted with a grade 5 bolt, and a second chain around the bellhousing and another bolt, the cab was off so this was literally the easiest way.

funny story, I lifted it onto the back of my flatbed truck and drove it 250 miles to a guy in a walmart parking lot. he had a 5 ton crane in the back of his truck and to get it in his work bed he had to lift it at least 20 ft in the air (the crane needed to be almost straight up and he didnt let out any cable). brave sonofabutch there, I stood a ways back and watched until he was done with my chains, seeing that 7-800lbs (GMC 248) so high in the air with some chains wrapped around it scared the beejezus out of me.

Re: Engine pulling points

I believe, the actual fatorry authorized way was to remove 2 head bolts, install 2 eye-bolts and attach a load-leveler.

I used the stomp-starter bolts holes on the bellhousing to attach my load leveler. On the front I used a long bolt and washer in one of the Thermostat holes.
