Re: camaro rear parking brake bracket

Scroll about 1/2 way down this page to this
<Dynapro Lug Mount Rear Parking Brake Kit>
http://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/BrakeKitLanding2.aspx

The only other option is Eldorado calipers with integrated parking brakes, Google the following.
<67-72 chevytrucks eldorado calipers>

https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q...orado+calipers

EDIT: You cant turn camaro calipers into e-brake calipers last time i looked..

Re: camaro rear parking brake bracket

Someone who knows more should chime in soon.
But...to make you feel better, that bracket is out there. I have a set. You will likely find them on ebay or a car at the junkyard. Rebuilt, parts store calipers often lack peripheral hardware like what you are describing. Those vehicles (93-97) with rear discs DID come with rear cable actuated emergency brakes.
In addition to the bracket that accepts the e-brake cable, these calipers also have a rubberized weight assembly. This seems to be some kind of damper that many people discard - so don't be obsessed with getting that part - if you can find the bracket that accepts the cable you should be fine.

here's what I used as a guide, having done this myself...if you used the pre- "LS" Camaro rear calipers, the one that has an arm on the caliper to actuate the pistons -vs. shoes inside the disc hat ("LS" Style brakes) here is what you should have...
Enjoy!

Re: camaro rear parking brake bracket

82 camaro has a bracket on them ---- but is SAE not metric I believe on the brake fitting ---- you will only have a parking brake after your switch --not an emergency brake like the rear drums were. That is what is on my 67 4wd--- I depress brake pedal before I pull the stock brake arm to pass holding it at idle in drive. Hope yours is better.

Re: camaro rear parking brake bracket

Glad he found the brackets - a bit surprised they were available alone.

Snipe castle - how are these brakes working for you (as well as the parking brake) vs the drums or just stopping in general?
Did you use a proportioning valve or did you just roll?
Thanks for the input and photos.

Talking Re: camaro rear parking brake bracket

Well, I just got the truck on the road and I'm having some small issues with braking, but I believe they are due to the big cam I am using, doesn't make a whole lot of vacuum at low idle so power brakes aren't quite right.
the e brake cable for the short bed is about 5-6" inches too short to makeup the cables, which is the reason for the extension piece with the two cable connectors and the bolt are used, these pictures were from another members build but gave me some insight as to what I needed to get it done.
I guess I'm going to have to install a vacuum reservoir or change to hydro boost brakes to fix my problem. I did however, buy the correct prop valve for 4 wheel disc, but have yet to change it.
Hope this helps!

Re: camaro rear parking brake bracket

Thanks for the detail. It's now like 50 questions....What about the rotors. I'm probably mistaken, but I seem to recall something about having to hog out the rotor or turn down a lip on the axle hub for the rotor to sit flush on the axle. Did you have that issue? thx again.

Hey snipecastle2, i would reroute that brake line down off the top of the axle. If you ever hit the bump stops, your gonna pinch your lines off.

Hey guys,
Those pictures came from another Member's build site, I just used them as a "Guide" while assembling mine. I did route the brake lines away from the bump stops, as I seen that coming. with regards to the calipers and rotors, Captain Fab's bracket kit is fabricated to use Impala/caprice rear brake rotors,(you can get the specifics from Capt.Fab's links....)

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ar+disc+brakes

as they have the correct "Hub-Centric" hole for the five on five axle pattern. You use pre-LS1 Camaro/Firebird rear calipers ('93-'97)these are the calipers that use a lever on the outside of the caliper to actuate the parking brake, the later (LS) style have shoes internal of the brake rotor and won't work on our trucks. hope this clarifies a few things for those who are sitting on the fence about going rear disc....much more affordable in my opinion.
Have a good one!

Re: camaro rear parking brake bracket

There are several sets of calipers with brackets on eBay now. I think this is one negative about the rear camaro caliper swap, you have to get the brackets from a junkyard. It would be nice if the aftermarket replacement/rebuilt units came with the bracket.
I have the same rear kit and I plan to go to the LKQ u pull yard and get a set of calipers with the bracket and cables intact.

if you go to the LT1/LS1 Camaro forums, I'm sure you will find someone selling these parts, just make sure you let them know you want "Pre-LS1" rear calipers, that way you get the correct ones, and the brackets will be on them....

I thought those looked familiar . I found that if you run the metal brake cables from the truck on the inside of cross member instead of the outside holes, it all works together without connecting the cables with an extension. I can post some pictures this evening if anyone wants them. I have them installed on two trucks and they work well. You have to adjust the parking brake several times as the pads break in, but the park brake holds once adjusted.

Re: camaro rear parking brake bracket

I got mine out of a Camaro/Firebird specialty salvage yard in Searcy, AR phone is 501 281-0844, his name is Brandon Barnett his cell is 501 281-3632. I know you're in Canada, but he can probably help you. Camaro Motorsports I think was the name. Btw, tyou probably know this but they are made by PBR that may help your search.

Here are is another lead.

I'd like to see how you tied the cables together without an extension. Figures I just went out and bought more cable connectors....

If you can send me a few pics of how you did the brake cables, I greatly appreciate it! I thought those pics were yours, just couldn't remember whose truck!
Thanks for the insight!

Changes on the cable routing.

I ran the cable throught the crossmember and used the regular metal clips on both sides. You have to re-adjust the cable after the pads break in.......

just finished the rear disc conversion with the help of captainfabs brackets. i found the camaro parking bracket brackets and it functions great. i found a great set of cables and with a little fabrication it all works. i can round up a list of parts and explanation if anyone wants. thanks for everyones help.
ive since painted all the calipers black and cleaned up the routed the cables on the inside of the rear trailing arms. also added air ride suspension for a low stance.
