'60 wobbly steering wheel
Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I just picked up a '60 Chevy 1/2 ton short bed step side truck. It has a Chevy 350 and 400 auto. The truck is pretty nice and drives great. The PO did a lot of work to it, to include putting in a chrome tilt steering column (shifter and ignition on the column) that he purchased new off of eBay (about 200 bucks per the receipt). I didn't notice when I was checking out the truck before I bought it (I guess I was too excited! haha), but on the drive home today I noticed that the steering wheel wobbles quite a bit. She steers just fine though. I thought I asked here before I go taking things apart, to see what the problem might be. I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions on this forum in the near future. Thank you in advance. |

Thanks for your input SlepySal. I'll go check those things now. It is an aftermarket wheel and tilt steering column.

Re: '60 wobbly steering wheel
if it wobbles where it tilts , there are 4 bolts that hold it together inside of the column .
I used to rebuild GM tilt wheel columns in phila. pa. |

if that is what it is, all you have to do is pull the wheel off, and you need a special puller to get the "hog"?? retaining ring off the wheel lock piece, then you can tighten up the column bolts.

Re: '60 wobbly steering wheel
Well, I got her all tightened up. It was that nut that worked it's way loose a bit. I tightened it down and all is well now. Thanks for your input....
