60-66 Frame swap question?

I'm trying to find out if it's a straight forward swap to use a 71 frame in a 65? I have a plan to build a 1 Ton 60-66 using the "late model convenience" of a 1974 C30, however after acquiring said complete truck, I learned of the difficulty in using the 74-87 frame on a 60-66. Especially since I plan to lower it... I have a chance to possibly pick up a clean 71 1 ton frame, and was hoping to make sure I don't make the same mistake again!

as far the 65 goes, I only have the cab and front sheet metal, no stock frame, unfortunately...

Also, based on past info I've read here, I believe I can use the entire front cross member, therefore getting hydro-boost disc brakes and power steering.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Re: 60-66 Frame swap question?

Scott I have in the past put a whole set of '65 sheet metal on a 1972 frame. The differences I found were:
1- the frame is a little taller, by about 1/2" I believe.
2- The forward cross member under the radiator is different.
3- the front frame horns are different.
4- The rear cab mounts are different.
5- The holes in the front cab mounts were 1/8" larger in diameter.
6- The frame is indented for a p/s gearbox.
7- the front radiator supports on the frame are...I can't remember...
The whole front suspension from the later trucks bolts in but is a little wider, I used a '73.
I am at present building a '66 using a '71 4x4 frame & I don't plan on having any more problems with it than I did with the '65. You will need to find the rear cab mounts for sure, hope this helps a little!
