Vintage 70's 8' slide in camper and an Alaskan pop up for a swb

The full size is one that's not one of the giants - has the nice cab over bed, but does not extend beyond tailgate (lose the john though, as is usually the case in this arrangement). The Alaskan is nice in that it's for a swb setup, but still has a pop-up/drop-down cabover sleeper. Enjoy:

Re: Vintage 70's 8' slide in camper and an Alaskan pop up for a swb

Alaskans (all are pop-ups) are some heavy S.O.Bs for a 1/2t. I didn't realize they even made those. I sure would never consider one on a C/10. If it's a newer unit it is probably intended for the ext cab/crew can shortie 8-luggers that are out now.

That first one could be repainted to look correct for a 67/72. My camper was 10' but still no john. I actually prefer that. It's nice to not have all that crap to deal with. Kinda nice to not have the possibility of such odors in such a confined area. I'm fine with stretching my legs and using a real toilet when traveling, and never had an issue having a place to go when camping. Get home from a trip and there's enough clean-up to deal with as it is w/o a john. Nice to not carry all that extra fluid weight at the far rear, too.

The Alaskan looks pretty good on the Dodge truck but check out the additional pics here http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/cto/5517184900.html
I wonder how much it would take to get the mildew off the exterior. I will never understand why sellers don't clean things up when they put them up for sale.

I agree with Special-K on the lack of a john. My old '69 camper is 11'. It has a toilet room/closet at the right rear. Works great with a Porta Potti and sure simplifies everything compared with self contained units.

Here are pics of my john and "water heater".

Also agree with Special K. I've owned a 27 foot 5th wheel RV and totally dislike the tow along sewer. At least once a summer while at the dump station at an RV park I end up getting sprayed in the face while rinsing the dump hose... F'n YUCK!!!!

Yep - i realize larger campers can still have no toilet, just saying have never seen one this size with one. Special-K, are you one of those guys that points out that all 61 impalas were bubble tops too! ha. I do. Excellent point - all pop-ups!
