Booster/Master cylinder ?

I'm in need of a new booster/master cylinder set-up and I'm considering this one......8" dual diaphragm
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-1972-ch...0372#vi-ilComp

I will be doing an LS swap in the future so I don't want to go hydroboost right now.....just need to refresh the brakes......

Anyone have any experience with this set up?

Re: Booster/Master cylinder ?

It looks like the one I used but mine had no prop valve. One thing to check is if it has a residual valve for the rear drums. Since it is sold as a disc/drum setup, it should. But if not, residual valve can available and can be installed inline low and out of sight.

Re: Booster/Master cylinder ?

What calipers are you using? I bought the exact setup for my build (9" booster) and I couldn't use the master. The 1"bore was too small, but the big problem with the Corvette style master is the lack of stroke. They only have 1 1/8" which doesn't give you much volume, and it would bottom out way before the pedal reached the floor.
I had to use (reluctantly) an OEM 1 1/4" dia bore for my twin piston calipers. The good part is that the OEM master has 1 7/8" of stroke.
Be very careful when choosing your master because each application is different.

Re: Booster/Master cylinder ?

I assume these are the stock calipers.......I haven't pulled anything apart yet but AFIK the front was converted to disc since this is a '70 model....It could be a "late" '70 that had disc from the factory....IDK?
I'm going to pull the wheels off and check it out before I pull the trigger on new set-up

If the truck worked fine before, then I would take the master off and measure it's bore and stroke before buying a replacement. I used 2003 calipers which is why I had issues, The caliper piston area on the newer trucks is much larger that the older ones, and that's why more volume is needed.
