trim on a 86 silverado windshield
I just bought an 86 that has the vinyl chrome piece sandwiched into the windshield rubber. Its badly worn. Can I just pry it out?

Yep, it will pull out. You can get new at almost any of the online truck stores. I replaced both my front & rear.

That is the windshield seal locking strip. I suggest you have a replacement in hand when you take the old one out. That secures your windshield in the seal.

Re: trim on a 86 silverado windshield
Those locking strips are available in black, and the silver chrome look. If they are the silver color it does add the look of having actual chrome in the gasket as the older trucks did. But the locking strip does lock the glass into the gasket so it is there for safety also, that is the reason I suggested you have the new one on hand when removing the old one. You will want to have a locking strip in the gasket if you are driving the truck.
