Hey all.......... my new ride

Hey guys and girls. Just wanted to say hello. I just picked up my 67 C-10 a couple of weeks ago. I have a tech question for you. What headers are you all running? I don't want them to hang lower than my frame rails. Thanks in advance for any help and advice!

I can't comment on headers because I'm a Stickler for Stock.
Super nice looking truck though!

Re: Hey all.......... my new ride

Great looking truck.

I can't tell, does it have rams horns now? They're suprisingly good flowing manifolds. For the little bit you would gain for the $ and headache of headers (you'll have to get the front of your exhaust redone too) I'd leave it alone.

Re: Hey all.......... my new ride

Man you got a nice looking truck there. I'm not a fan of headers on a daily driver. Leaks, Heat, more leaks, in the way of ..well everything. they never give the horsepower they promise and actually might hurt low speed torque. (on mild engines)

But if you must...I have hooker headers on mine that will soon be replaced with manifolds...because did I mention leaks? They tuck up about as close as you can get for long tubes. I have the 2.5" collector a 3" will hang a bit lower .

If you absolutely go the header route by a quality ceramic coated set thats at least going to help not burn up everything within 6" of them. Keep your old manifolds. There a reason so many will pay you nice $$ for them.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/th...FRRgfgodmIADow By wrapping your headers with Thermo-Tec exhaust wrap, you keep exhaust heat in your pipes where it belongs. This reduces underhood temperatures up to 70 percent, and cools the incoming air/fuel mixture to increase horsepower and fuel efficiency. Not only that, but the reduced heat also extends the life of electronic components. Exhaust wrap can withstand continuous heat up to 2,000 degrees

I will trade you my headers for your manifolds. I will even include the starter heat shield that you WILL need when you put headers on.

Re: Hey all.......... my new ride

Wow... so many header haters. LOL

I'm the buddy mentioned above who found this truck for Tate. I believe the truck currently has the 73 and later rear exit/dump style factory exhaust manifolds. The problem is the passenger side engine mount stand was clearanced to clear the manifold, and at best, only has 1/8" clearance. The drivers side manifold is basically resting on the engine mount tower, so they need to be changed. Ideally, we're trying to find a set of long tubes that will tuck up inside the frame rails, or maybe a set of mid length headers. Trying to avoid dragging collectors on speed bumps etc.

Just an FYI... I installed a set of Patriot BBC ceramic coated mid length Chevelle headers on my 72 GMC, and they have been great. Six years now and not one leak or issue to complain about.... no starter heat shield either.

Re: Hey all.......... my new ride

Hedman mid lengths will keep the pipes above the bottom of the frame rails.

All these guys dissing headers must have pretty tame motors. Mine ran like crap until I put headers on it. Yeah, they are a pain in the butt, but saying the ram horns flow as good is baloney.

I went to summits page, the mid lengths are all for Chevelles, Nova's ect... I'm all over them if they'll work!

Re: Hey all.......... my new ride

72Chevelle454 Has done it right. See those Ceramic coated, mid length massively thick flanged headers? If you go the Header route go like this.

And as others noted. the mild engines usually don't see much if anything of benefit for daily driving. But an engine that is built up will certainly utilize the better flow and scavenging effect of a good set.

I've got hedman long tube, and wish I had the mid length, the long tubes hang quite a ways below the frame rails

Thank you all for the imput, I really do appreciate it. Since I am home sick today it gives me plenty of time to research some more on which ones give the best bang for the buck.
