If you had'em, would you use'em
So, this '71 Cheyenne project came with a set of Buddy Buckets. My first thought was to sell them to help fund some of the project and put in a bench seat. The covers are a mess but the foam looks decent. Either way I will need to have a seat recovered. I have an offer of $650 for the buddys, but the more I look at them I'm thinking about using them. Any thoughts? Thanks guys

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
I don't get why people spend that kind of money on them. Personally, they'd be unbolted & sold if there was 650 on the table.
Guess it depends on how easily you can find a replacement seat. |

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
Sell n go bench or 71/72 buckets. I know it's silly, but for some reason, I've never felt like buddies look quite right in anything beyond a 68. Seems like you weren't necessarily "looking" for buckets - so a bench may be preferred over 71/72 buckets - especially when you consider what THEY are going for these days... If have a bench or know how to find one easily - I'd go bench and pocket the difference - like you said, you have to cover em both.

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
I had a set that I redid, painted the frame, put new covers on them, and put em in my truck. They looked great, but after using them I preferred the bench over the buckets by far, so I sold them. Its been awhile, and I sold them for less than what a craptastic set is going for today LOL!

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
When I got my 68 GMC it had buddies but the buddies were gone in favor of utility buckets bolted to the buddy frame. I also got the buddies and the take off tailgate . The truck also had speed warning. At that time the buddies would do say a grand and the speed cluster maybe $400. I kept all that stuff instead if you do sell it yes you will have a little more to spend on it right now but then that hard[er all the time] stuff to find is gone forever. Those thing will make it worth more later or there is always a time you could pull them out to sell if need be. I agree with Grump they should do more than that and next month a little more than now. Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
personally i like them better than the 69-72 buckets-they fit my rather large "bucket" butt better. i have them in my 72 cheyenne super 4x4 and will be using them in my 69 suburban 4x4.

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
Unless you find a bench seat with nice upholstery the color/style you want, you'll have to spend a lot of that $650 on your next seat. If you like them, use them. The money for the sale won't make that big a difference in your build expenses. If you do sell them they are worth more than $650

A LOT of people would give you $650 for those seats.

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
I think they are pretty cool looking and might add some value to your truck if you should ever decide to sell it. Of course I have never had the opportunity to sit on any to see if they are comfy.. That would ultimately be the deciding factor for me. 650 bucks these days is gone faster than a fart in a wind storm...

List them for sale in the classified section for $1,000.00 I'd be willing to bet a donut they sell in 1 day .

Just curious for the people that say they prefer the bench over the buckets, what exactly is it that you like better about the bench?

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
Spring seats ride better than a block of foam , my girl can sit closer ,or the dog depends on the day ! 3 people can sit on the bench , much better on date nite ! More room to store "stuff" under the seat .

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
For me, it's aesthetics. In a single cab truck, those seats look odd. Like they got plopped in there by someone with no clue as to "flow". To my eyes, nothing fits an old regular cab truck like a nice bench seat.

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
Well Buddy buckets cover off all other than foam/spring, so it's a ride thing? I guess at 6'3" 250lbs the buddy bucket sits lower is less of a pogo stick than the factory bench seats, to each thier own I suppose, I've had numorous compliments on my buddy buckets. I guess I am far from a purist, give me a restomod over a factory original any day.

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
Thanks for the input everyone. I am currently doing the rust repair and have awhile to decide. I do like the look of the Cheyenne scroll on the bench seat. Like most things it will probably come down to which ever is the best deal $$$. This is the Beast before it was torn down for the rust repair.

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
Tim at truckseats quoted $900-1000 for covers with the scroll in dark olive. Original bench with Cheyenne Scroll is sounding better. Thanks

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
I've rebuilt dozens of sets of buddy buckets over the years and it's the old supply and demand thing that drives the crazy prices for them ,Personally I'm not all that impressed with them, with the thin stamped steel frame that's spot welded together more times than not the bottom corners of the seat are cracked and need to be rewelded , the nut sets that hold the seat to the tracks are usually cracked as well and you have to peel the foam away to be able to repair them . They have no adjustment other than forward and back and the generic seat tracks are cheesy at best . At least with the 67-68 folding bench you have some recline adjustment and they fold forward , The bench seats have a full spring construction over the buddies few cross springs that hold up the foam . The prices keep climbing on the buddies because they are harder to find but they are no where near the standard 67-68 full spring folding bench seat in comfort or convenience . The taller guys. Like the buddies because they sit lower but I'm 6'2" and 250+ and the bench seats are fine ,to each their own but I would never spend what guys selling them want for a set let alone the crazy costs to rebuild a set ,Just my opinion some guys love them but I think it's all overrated and would suggest if your in the market for a set try them out before you buy them you may just decide your bench rides better .

Re: If you had'em, would you use'em
the logical solution is to find a '67 CST with a bench.
and buy it. that's the only way.
