Mysterious Oil Leak

Project BABA YAGA! got a 700r4 installed last Friday. When it came time to dial in the shift points, the truck would choke out badly. Crap in the gas tank was in the filter. While diagnosing the problem(s) I noticed the harness smoking with the key in the on position. Turned it to off and it stopped.

Towed the truck 3 miles to a friends shop. Went by today and noticed an oil puddle under the front of the truck. Looked underneath and it had drops all across the lip of the cross member. Got up and looked over the drivers fender and noticed the lip of the cross member was pooled in oil.

Keep in mind:
The truck has been sitting, locked for a week.
The truck has never leaked oil.
The engine was professionally built and has less that 600 miles on it.
The engine, while sitting, has lost 2/3-3/4 of a quart of oil.

I find it hard to believe the pan gasket went bad while sitting,
I find it hard to believe the front seal in a fresh 600 mile motor went bad while sitting,
I find it hard to believe all the things that are going wrong in the past three weeks...

Anyone have any ideas where such a spontaneous and aggressive oil leak would be coming from while sitting?

Re: Mysterious Oil Leak

what year was it, anyway, does it have the air pump still on it? does it have the air pump bracket still on it? does it have the bolt that holds the air pump bracket to the block? that bolt hole goes all the way through the block and oil can pour right out if you forget to plug it back up when you remove the air pump / air pump bracket, ask me how I know, LOL

if the pump is gone, it usually goes on the passenger side front of the engine right about in front of the fuel pump, check there

Re: Mysterious Oil Leak

It's a 1970 high nickle content 350 bored .030 over and assembled by a performance racing shop. It does not have an oil cooler and has never had any smog equipment (air pump, etc).

It has run leak free for 600 miles. The only recent work done to the truck was a new battery, new wheels and tires and the 700r4... at which point it had wiring issues and was towed to its current location where it began aggressively leaking without ever having been started.

I am pretty sure I am still on planet Earth and it's May of 2016...

Re: Mysterious Oil Leak

the only thing i can imagine is when the people installed the transmission they had to unbolt the engine mounts(maybe) lower/raise the engine(maybe) and maaaybe bashed the oil pan on the crossmember or subframe or something. maybe

thats assuming someone else did your trans install and they didnt give a dang. other than that i am out of ideas other than just plain bad luck
