1963 or 64?
Hey. New to the forum. I have a truck the titled a 1963 but I could swear it's s 64. It's doesn't have the wrap around windshield or the doors I would expect The only thing I can think is it was built late in 63. I would attach pics but I guess I don't have permission. Any answers?
Also I want to maybe put some rally truck style rim. Would 15x7 be a good fit? What size tires? Thanks in advance for any info. Jeff. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1963 or 64?
64. 63 had kneeknocker windshields. probably an early 64 model that was "titled" in 63. the vin should show a 64 date though. whats the first few digits of the vin?

Re: 1963 or 64?
From what I can read your vin comes out as 1001 P F2300A
Alright, here we go, 1001 makes it a 1000 series with a 115 inch wheel base. P means it was built in the Pontiac, Michigan Plant. F makes it a 64-66. 2300 is the Serial number. A is a GVW of 6000 pounds. Only way to tell if it's a 66 is by the red lettering in the grill. If it doesn't have that red lettering it's a 64-65. Does it still have the original V6?

Re: 1963 or 64?
Still original v-6. 69k miles. I don't think this truck could be anymore orginal. Orginal shocks and everything. I changed the point for a tune up and they were marked GMC. Have a lot a documentation including the orginal title and loan documents. I want to keep it orginal except disk brakes that the reason for the rims question. Jeff

Re: 1963 or 64?
As the others mentioned, it is a model year 1964, but was most likely originally purchased in 1963, so when it was registered, the current calendar year was used for the documentation at the DMV. I've seen a few registrations that had the same calendar year vs model year discrepancy.

Re: 1963 or 64?
That is a beautiful truck.
If they were calling for 10W use 5-20 or 5-30? Synthetic? With synthetic maybe the seals will leak? I think oils today are far superior to what they were back then. |

http://6066gmcclub.com/index.php I run 15W-40 in my V6. You'll have to locate a 67 or later model V6 from my knowledge and it will have the spin on filter. Mine is a 67 engine and it does.

Re: 1963 or 64?
The oils today don't have the zinc additive anymore because all these new cars have roller cams or ohc.

Re: 1963 or 64?
I'd run rotella 10w-30 or 15w-40 with a ZDDP zinc additive.

Re: 1963 or 64?
I had the same thing with my registration. The registration says it is a 63 and it has a 63 grill but a torsion bar front end so I say it is a 62.
