After driving the truck home, about 100 miles. There are a few things that really need updated to make me happier(make sense?) Now that I have had a little time to sit down and start looking up parts and prices, big question is... What are these things really worth?

I know we are not going to keep it forever. We are already having parking issues at the house. And winter months we can not park on the road, so I will have to find a place to store it. We are thinking that we will keep it for the summer and do as much camping and traveling in it as possible, and sell it this fall/winter. But I really can't find any that are for sale or have sold.

And I know the cost of COOL has its price...lol. I just don't want to be totally upside down on this thing.

While I am half joking, I am half serious too. These things are a hobby for 99% of us, as opposed to a money making investment.
That's a nice looking truck (from this side of the screen), I would do what you need to do and use it.

I can't really help you with a price, but I have been looking for a 67-71 camper conversion for some time. They seem to be a rare bird here in the midwest. Did you find it local? It looks extremely clean and I love the color combo (I have a 69 med. olive/white). Do you have more pictures, maybe of the inside of the camper, any water damage. What condition is the drive train? Might help some people determine a what it could be worth.

If you want to sell it this winter, let me know.

Very clean! Only 28k miles on it. It looks like it did have a leak at one time, by the look of the silicone on the roof? And the green shag carpet is a little faded

Oh man. On my first truck, I bought a nice-looking shortbed 4x4, had a shop go through it and do an LS swap, and was forced to sell it after less than two years of owning it. Was majorly upside down on that one - very stupid, but I learned a lot.

On my current truck, I saved up to buy a nice 4x4 that had the options I wanted, and then began methodically going through it myself, making sure everything was up to a standard I felt comfortable with. I got a good deal on the truck, I've put a very acceptable amount of time, work, and money into it, and I've had zero labor costs so far - and I'm still upside down on it. There's no way I could sell it for what I have into it.

Unless you bought it for a super deal and haven't put a dime into yet, you're probably already upside down on it!

Seriously, though, I'm with 71swb4x4 - if you like it, keep it and resign yourself to losing some money on it, consider it a hobby for fun. Or sell it right away, because once you start going through it, there WILL be things you want to change, fix, make better, and no one is going to pay for that, unfortunately.

I would say it's worth a minimum of $5000 and probably more like $8000.

Post a link to the "meet Frankie" post. For some reason I cannot find it. Very cool camper you have there. I tried to get my wife to agree to purchase one of those and she would not have it. We ended up getting a 5th wheel toy hauler. At least I have my '69...

And when I say I want a couple things updated, here is a list off the top of my head-

Tires - all 7
Brakes - rear cylinder leaking - replace all
Exhaust - has dump right behind cab
Gas cap - does not have one???
Oil Change - just because
Radiator flush - just because
Tranny fluid - just because

So not really alot of money(not sure on price of tires yet), but can start adding up

And looks like storage is going to be $40-$50 a month...

all that is maintenence. id do those regardless. espacially the brakes. you ll need rear shoes too if theyre oil soaked. no saving those.

Here are my thoughts, excluding the wheels, I think all are a must if you are going to use it in any shape or form. Now, the tires, if you have to replace them anyway, why not try and get your hands on something nice, and go this route, it will give it a whole new look and stance, and will no doubt add some serious coolness value. Have already bought the rear shoes, new cylinders, and all new springs and hardware for the rear. For the front it only looks like I need new pads. Calipers look fine. Looking in my area to see if I can get the drums and rotors turned.

Also have all the fluids and filters. Trying to find some 7.50R16 tires though. Not looking good

Then comes the rims, clean and paint, or have blasted and powder coated? Exhaust...not sure what I am going to do with that yet. Maybe just take to shop and have all new put on???

Maybe I need to start build thread for this thing???

I'd enjoy owning one of those and parking wouldn't really be a problem for me but I'd much rather keep something like that inside and that would be impossible.

If you slick the cab, then you'll have to redo the camper. You know how it is. As of now a real good clean up and buffing, like you said, make it safe, then use it. Retro is in. I'm nearly done with a 67 Scotty sportsman that I will pull with mine. Cool is not cheap and cheap is not cool. Anybody can go down to the Jayco lot and sign their name to a new motorhome, and on the way back from the bath house, they will lose theirs in the crowd. You wont. I absolutely love that rig and when I am out , I hope to see yours out there camping as well.

That is cool!

Most of the ones I see on here end up getting scrapped, but they're usually beat up, rotten, etc. It even looks like the green on the camper matches the truck.

Take care of all the maintenance stuff, she's a heavy girl, she needs good brakes.

The only cosmetic thing I would do (other than a good clean and buff) would be to paint the wheels white. I think that would make the truck pop a lot more. Oh, and it needs one of those in front of the grille tire mounts! (how did those trucks not overheat?)

Very cool old camping unit!
Agree with the group...get that maintenance work done and while the tires are off get those rims sandblasted and painted a nice GM white or get some nice H.duty hubcaps on it.
That will really make the outward appearance 'pop' in my opinion.
Interesting that a truck with a cabover camper has clearance lights on the roof...lol, ya never know what they were thinking back then.

Yah like you said yourself, not a lot of money invested (except the tires) to get her where you apparently want her. Get it all done! If your goal was to make money, stop.....do everything but the tires, and sell that thing.

I have been trying to find one to buy here in Iowa and I have found zero so I'd say if I were you I'd find a place to store it inside, do the maintenance stuff, it'll just go up in value IMO.
