Power Steering box on 67 C10 - with serp belt setup

I have a 67 C10 that I have just swapped over an early 90s serp belt setup with P/S pump. The gearbox that the PO has on it is power, it has a little less then an inch of play when rotating steering shaft to box. I also notice that when it does turn it is very quick responding. Makes it a little uncomfortable on the road when driving. I have read up and noticed some people putting a 78 P/S gearbox, but wanted to know if anyone is running a similar setup and would recommend a gearbox for me. Would like to keep it under $200 and just buy one from a local parts store if possible.

Re: Power Steering box on 67 C10 - with serp belt setup

I have the stock box with the gm serpentine system and it works well. Maybe go back to an original box?

Re: Power Steering box on 67 C10 - with serp belt setup

New style pump and gear box are metric Thread, older style are SAE thread for the supply and return hose.

New style gear box is 3.5 steering turns end to end and older style 4 turns

As far as steering feel they would both have the same quick feel ,I have a early style pump and gear box on my 68 and a new style steering parts on my 69 and both have that same quick feel , (NORMAL)

these are not rack & pinion steering components as on what most likely you have gotten used to driving over the last 10 years or so...

also I think smaller steering wheels make it feel a little sharper then the stock size , I think you are fine just need to have faith and get use to the feel
