1966 C20 Muncie Swap
I just acquired a 66 C20 with a built 350 and TH350 transmission. Just yesterday I discovered that it used to be a 4 speed, and I'd love to have that back. I know an M20 Muncie is going to cost a good amount, but luckily some of the hard work is already done (pedal cluster and place in the floor for the shifter). Is there anything else I need to get before swapping a Muncie in?

It probably did not have a M20. most likely the truck 4 sp. with granny low. But with the auto switch the PO set you up with the right cross member and maybe the right drive line for the car 4 speed. the shifter hole in the floor is a 50/50 chance of being close for the M20. of course ya need a bellhousing and clutch ass. pilot shaft bushing and bell crank.

The challenge with an M20-22 is the tailshaft shifter location - does not work well with a bench. I believe it can be done with the right shifter, but it's tight. The only ones I've ever seen that have done this had an rather extreme fwd bend in the stick, and the knob was still almost resting on the seat in 2nd and 4th.

In these trucks a shifter riser plate such as this helps get the shifter up where it is more comfortable.

Plus you could at the same time move the shifter forward a little if you have a bench seat. Back in the Day. hurst made a shifter for the 57's with a bench seat. I don't let shifters scare me to much. just make sure the shift ass. is good and secure and make the rods fit. you can see mine is up high and fward of everything.

The Hurst shifter handle for bench seat 55-57 Chevy's is still available. I used it in a 66 C10 with a 350/M21 and it worked great. Tall enough, cleared the stock bench, and still had full seat travel. Your existing transmission crossmember should work, if your auto is tailshaft mounted.
