Keep the stepside or switch back to fleetside? Thoughts?
So I put a stepside 8 ft bed on my crew cab last year to replace my rusted out fleetside. I like it alot but I also have to ditch my trim to run it and I always liked the trim. I'm getting a parts truck in exchange for some work I'm gona grab the front crossmember 3 speed column and clutch pedal out of it. I went to check it out today and it's beat but surprisingly the beds in great shape which is hard to find around my area. I like the fact there Noone else is running a crew cab step side around here and I like being different but I'm torn whether I should put a fleetside back on it and run the trim or keep the stepside. I'm going to try to get it ready for paint over the summer. Here's my pile as it sits now.

I like the step. I wonder if dually trim could be made to look right.

For that truck I'd go fleetside. I like the lines. My parents had a 1 ton 73 fleet crewcab when I was a kid so I may be biased.
I'd guess you'll get about a 50/50 vote on this. |

I love stepsides hands down...but on a crew cab, a fleetside bed is the only way to go IMO...

I'd leave it step side since the 8 foot one is rare,Unless you want to do a two tone paint i would remove the side trim,If you want it two toned then i would look in to making the dually trim work maybe.

If you like the stepside, keep it. Should be possible to find some trim to work on the stepside bed. Or maybe some well placed paint stripes. The lines on the bed look to line up pretty close to the trim lines on the cab.

I like the stepside if its not going to be used for hauling or anything its different,. If you want to sell the stepside bed and are looking for a fleetside I may be able to work out a deal with you. I have a decent long fleet bed that comes complete with a cap and a bedliner inside is perfect some small rust on it and im not too far away PM me if you are interested in discussing this further

I agree with rusty, if it's a toy I would leave he step side. If it's a working truck, I would put the fleet side on.

Fleets I like for a crew cab. I do like step sides on regular cabs.

Re: Keep the stepside or switch back to fleetside? Thoughts?
I can't stand step sides on these square bodies, looks like an afterthought, so you know what I would do with it.
On an older 1930's-40's-50's type of truck for instance where the front fenders mimic the back, then it works for me. |

my thoughts exactly. to me anything newer than a 1960 doesnt look good with a stepside. but on the other hand it is cool that its an 8ft stepside on a crew cab |

Have to agree with this. I would definitly go to the Fleet side. The step side looks like an after thought on this square. Nice truck other wise.
