Best Modern Sheet metal

This is probably beating a dead horse and I've searched a good bit for what people have had good luck with. And I didn't know if quality control would have changed recently as far as fitment or gauge.

So what say you? Is Tabco still pretty much the best? What about GMC Paul's or Top Banana? Do these guys just use another brand or their own? What about TriPlus from AMD? Or are there any others not mentioned?

Re: Best Modern Sheet metal

I'm satisfied with what I have received from GMC Pauls. Fitment is close. What is off I'm counting more toward new parts on a 45 year old truck that was never built with close tolerances to begin with.

Oh, thanks. I had forgotten about them. I had checked out their site.

Without trying to offend any members (like nsanehotrodz), do companies like this use other makers like TriPlus or Tabco for their sheet metal or patch panels? Or do they use something/someone exclusive or proprietary?

On the other hand, I have heard good things about nsanehotrodz and GMC Pauls and even Top Banana. Thanks for the responses.

I can't acted nsanehotrodz about shipping to CA. They were extremely nice and said the use Tri Plus parts. I haven't made a purchase yet but they shopped around to find a great shipping price for me.

Re: Best Modern Sheet metal

For what its worth, and I am new to putting on new sheet metal on the project I am doing, but I purchased wheel housings and the front box panel yesterday from a vendor locally selling Tri Plus, and it looks and seems to be very good quality. I know locally he sells the best he can find - at least that's my experience.

Re: Best Modern Sheet metal

Thanks guys. I've heard good things about TriPlus but I want to say I've heard a few fitment issues with them. Maybe that was due to the project instead of the panels.

Something is wrong with Tabco's website currently.

You should buy from someone who has experience installing these parts. Someone that can help you during and after the sale.

And you would be referring to yourself? Thanks for responding!

I'm actually trying to figure out what sheet metal is typically the best quality. Do you guys handle just TriPlus or other brands?

I've heard Key Parts is good. I hope so anyway, I have one of their front wheel wells (yep, passenger side).

I would be happy to do business with you but mostly I just want you to purchase from someone that can help you with fitment issues after the purchase so you don't become an aftermarket part hater lol. Us aftermarket parts dealers get a bad wrap when people buy from companies that have no experience using the parts they sale (honestly have probably never seen the parts they sale) and can't help customers with fitment so the customer blames the part when there is more than likely a five minute fix on the issue that someone working with these parts can help you with. Yes all our parts are tri-plus. Key parts is not a brand they are a distributor.

Re: Best Modern Sheet metal

I ordered some door skins from AMD (supposedly the best), and the boxes were labeled Tri-Plus distributed by KEY Parts. They are good quality metal but, the door skins still has issues fitting around the window frame to door body. About a 1/8" gap.

I definitely respect that honesty. That business practice would more likely get me as a customer. Customer service after the sale is very important to me as it is most people. It is also nice to have a vendor to talk to directly on the forum.

Trouble with us is going to be that our installer/metalworker doesn't sell any parts. We'll be providing them to him. So we wanted to get the highest quality we could.

On a side note, he showed me a lower passenger fender patch that he did and it fit terrible. The better fitting the panel, the less metalworking.

Another one for TriPlus. Thanks for the information. I hope we aren't going to have to have a door skin on the driver side but we may. My Grandpaw hanging his arm out the window for so many years.

Re: Best Modern Sheet metal

I picked up a couple of sets of drip rails, the last set I got from GMC Paul's. none of the fit and after talking to GMC Paul's they told me one company makes all of the drip rails sold by everyone else. not sure if it is the same on all sheet metal. GMC Paul did refund my money.

I definitely appreciate that. We will for sure keep that in mind. My brother is going to do most of the calling this week to get a game plan on the parts we use.

Oh wow. That's good customer service. Thanks for that info. Luckily, our drip rails are okay. But that would make me wonder about some of the other parts. GMC Paul's was one of the top vendors on my list that I heard good stuff about.
