Am I missing something?

Went to Cruisin for a Cure this weekend. Saw this 67 on 71 frame for sale. He said he wanted 36,000 for it. What am I missing here? He said 502, custom interior (No Limit panel with Autometers, recovered late model seat ), fuel cell in the bed, hard tounneau(sp). He said I couldnt build anything that nice for any less.

I must be missing it too. Very nice but I don't see $36,000. Well.... maybe if I payed some one to do everything.

For that money, I'd expect to see all the correct emblems and badges and an OE CST bucket seat.

I guess if you add it all up and factor in your time and a professional bodyman's time, you could get there.

Cool ! I got like almost $10,000 into mine now but I am over the $$$ hump. So when I get done I could ask something like $ 50,000 for it ? Hell ya I could NOT. This guy had better have a time machine to take me back to the 70's when I am driving it for $36,000 ! IMO

nope

Even if every nut and bolt was new, I don't see $36K there. It is a clean truck (even if it isn't bone stock CPNE). I guess a new GM crate 502 is pricey - $7K?, and a new 700R4. Body work (by a pro) is about $65 per hour. It adds up quick if you don't do anything yourself.

Well, if he's such a good project man lets see some of his other projects! That's the best advertising he could offer is some references if he's serious about selling something for that much. It may actually have that much in parts, labor, and aftermarket specialty items in it, but he's going to have to work to get that much out of it. He needs some "proof" to show....

36k no way. I bet all he did was take it to a bodyshop and dropped it off and told the guy to call him when it was done.
I would say it is worth IMO 12K and not much more.

I think there could be $36k in the truck with parts AND labor, but he'll never sell it for that much.

A different perspective..... I get guys asking me all the time if I'm interested in selling my 74.... I'll name a somewhat high price-tag. Realistic, no. But that's what it would take to sell.

Some people have more money than time & are looking for something cool to drive right away. 36K is a bit steep for a typical swb truck so it sounds like he's trying to re-coupe his labor expenses which isn't likely. But, he also might just be throwing out a high price just to see if someone bites.... & it can/does happen.

True, strange things happen. Once, before the red truck was painted red(it was multicolor primer), a lady came in the store and wanted to know if it was for sale. I threw a $5K price tag out there and she was ready to pay it. She wanted it for her hubby for his 40th b-day. Then I had to try and talk my way out of that!! Be careful what you say, someone may take you up on it! Jeff.

I can totally see $36,000 into that. (Canadian)

Slammed 67 and I both have a idea how many hours are involved in building a truck that looks that nice

Mario, I can think of more than a few trucks on this board that go waaay beyond that quality. Which kinda proves my point, if thats 36k, then we should have some on the board selling for 50k.

I understand what you are saying now.

I looked at a 87 Chevy 4x4 LWB. The sign read "$5000" I had a look at it and went home came back a couple of days later and the guy was willing to take $2500 I told him that that was still too much. The truck needed a Drivers floor, paint from the trim down, a front fender, front bumper ,the U joint was ready to snap. The motor had a nock and the dash was cracked like crazy.

My point. People can ask whatever they want. They just might never sell it.

Slap a fuel injected tune-port system on top of that 502, some nice billet 20's and get rid of that flag pole anntena and it would be closer to the $ amount.
