Setting up my suspension

Hey all, I posted in the Performance and Race section and it's pretty much crickets over there. I have a 70 c10 LWB truck and I built a pretty stout 355 and put a mini spool with 3.73's in it. Also just did a Holeshot 3000 converter which I'm really diggin. After I installed the mini spool I started noticing a bit of wheel hop once I get the tires spinning. This is a purely for fun truck, hence the mini spool, and I'd love to take it to the drag strip and get into the high 12's (for starters lol 12's won't be good enough once I get there) The suspension is 100% stock right now front and rear, and has NO sway bar in the front which kinda drives like a boat in the water. I'm not looking for a road race type handling but id like to improve the driveability, lower and level it a little without spindles, and get the wheel hop to go away and launch hard at the track. What are you 1/4 mile guys running? I'm limited to bolt on for now btw.

Matt

Re: Setting up my suspension

It's got some helper springs out back, I don't haul or tow so any insight on what removing these would do is appreciated. Not sure if they are necessary or what

Re: Setting up my suspension

Sorry you got no help over in the other section. To get a little lower without spindles and not compromise handling I would cut 1 coil off your front springs. It will net about 3 inches lower and that is about as far as you want to go so the geometry on your lower control arms doesn't get weird (lower ball joint higher than inner control arm pivot point). Then 1.5" lowering block and 2" lowering springs (get rid of the other springs), shock relocator mounts, and a long adjustable pan-hard bar. New shocks will be your bestfriend! Finally flip the trailing arm mont that connects the rear arms to the crossmember under the cab, it will change the leverage point of your rear suspension and the truck will hook allot harder!

Re: Setting up my suspension

Over in the racing section in the sticky threads there is a suspension 101 write up (link below). Has tons of good info. A good set of drag shocks would do wonders for you and a better set of race oriented springs would help a ton too
