How Low

How low can you have your truck (driving) before it becomes a PIA? 55(2nd), 56, 57, 58, 59. I am referring to the cab side rocker height above the ground, since this is the lowest part of these trucks.

I am aiming for a beer can height at the front of the rocker, but I am interested in hearing from others experience.

As long as you stay above the scrub line life is good. I don't know if I have a photo of a friend of mine's 56 but it sits right at or maybe below the scrub line and he has driven it that way daily or almost daily since the day he got it together over 30 years ago.

Other than that I'd say where you drive locally and how strict the local law is on lowered rigs has more to do with how low you go. You might get away with being a bit lower in Cali but if you lived in Bountiful Utah you would want it a couple of inches higher just to navigate the streets and get in and out of parking lots. Embarrassing as hell to have to tell the wife and kids to get out of the rig so you can get the bumper up off the entrance way to a grocery store parking lot in that town but I had to do that once.

It sure wasn't at the time when we on a road trip. You couldn't slide a 12 oz Pepsi can standing up under the front bumper and if you laid on it's side it under the bumper and stepped on the bumper you could dent the can.

I'm at about 6"-6.5", but haven't driven it yet. Somewhere I read Porterbuilt said 5.5" is the sweet spot without issues.

I would say anything above 5 inches , my 49 had around 4 and would scrape on a inclined driveway

flipping the rear axle under the stock springs out back gives you about 7'' drop
truk has never scraped a driveway in 27,000 miles (yet)

To me his is just about right for daily street driving and not having any hassles.

Mine was just a smidge below the scrub line, no airbags. Only ever scraped the bottom of the fender once going over a big speed bump just a bit too fast. If I build another I'll do it exactly the same height

How low is the front and rear most part of the cab from the ground?

Mine will (hopefully) be the exact same height as Ogre's because I am installing a Fatman Fabrications Mustang II IFS in front and flipping the rear end on top of my leaf springs. The unknown of course is the condition of my leaf spring stack versus his and/or the type of rearend in his truck vs. mine but I suspect the height will be very similar.

What I DON'T WANT is to have to enter driveways sideways, c r a w l over speed bumps or drive at freeway speeds terrified about a blow out .

I've never liked extremes and my girlfriend considers any vehicle lower than stock a "lowrider" - which I feel is a style NOT dictated only by ride height - I like lowriders they're just not my style. My style is somewhere between what was cool in the early 70's when I as in high school and now. I'm not planning on doing airbags, nor raised white letter tires though! Lol.

The rear was flipped on top of the springs, no lowering blocks if I remember right and 275/50-15 tires on 9 inch rims

The front was 85 monte clip with one coil cut and 205/70-14 on 7 inch rim

As for the measurements I'm afraid you'll have to estimate from the picture, I don't remember and the truck is gone. I'll see if I can find a straight side shot if that helps.

Terrible lighting but only one I could find, young ladies were CFL Hamilton Tiger Cats cheerleaders from when the truck was in the Grey Cup parade in Vancouver in 2005 (got pics with BC Lions cheerleaders too )

It has been my experience that, for a driver, anything 5" or less will require constant vigilance to avoid scraping driveways, speedbumps, etc. I agree that 5-1/2 to 6 would be an adequate compromise between style and practicality.
