I'm sure this has been covered... but I don't have a link to it saved.
What is the gap suppose to be between the bottom of the door and the rocker? My truck is an hour drive away and I don't feel like going all that way just for that. Thanks |

I thought that the distance was supposed to the same all the way around.
What should the distance be around the door all the way around? |

When I've replaced rockers, I just hung the door, made sure the rear part of the rocker was at the same level as the cab corner, and adjusted the front part of the rocker so the "gap" was the same all the way across. You don't want it too close, because when you open the door, the door corner will scrape across the rocker.
This isn't scientific but it's always worked for me.

I read somewhere, the way to do your doors is to get a bunch of wedgies......well that didn't come out right.. The little wood wedges you use to frame in a house door (I guess that is how you say it. Put the little wedges in all around the door until you get the same space on all sides.
That is close as I know...Don't ever remember seeing anything about specific measurements.

Oh I see, you have the rocker in and are hanging the door. I would have thought it would have been simpler the other way around.

Ok after you get all the wedges in then what........... With the wedges in you can't tighten the door up unless you have a fender off on that side. How do you do it with the fender on?

Dirt Dobber: Just line up the body line on the door lined up with the body line on the cab corner. That will be where your vertical position should be. Then check for uniform gap around the whole door. It may require some slight adjustment from that point. They are a pain to get aligned, but it just takes some patience. Also, an extra set of hands would help too!

Thanks slammed,
Ok I aligned the doors as said with the body lines. everything looks good as far as I can tell( I have no fenders on it so I can't check the front).except at the top of the door... it's touching the lip inside the cab... everything else has a nice gap except this point... it will be smashing the piss out of the seal. Is this the way it is suppose to be? |

![]() If you read the first post it mentions neither hanging a door nor installing a rocker. That happened in the 3rd post, and my "erroneous" post happened 4th. I had started my post (trying to be helpful) prior to the 3rd post appearing but got interruped in the process, which is why my advice seems silly when reading the posts in order. Furthermore nowhere was it mentioned that suicide doors were involved until after my posts. That is why I made the comment it would have been easier to hang the doors first. Normally one hangs the door in order to get rocker alignment correct (or as interpreted by me to determine the gap between the door bottom and rocker). Dirt Dobber took my "faux pas" for what it was, a misinterpetation of the question, given the minimal facts presented. So if it's come to the point where one gets belittled for trying to help a fellow board member, then this board may not be for me. Now that I've explained myself, I'll bow out (again) and let Dirt Dobber's thread proceed with "helpful" info. Dirt Dobber, sorry to intrude. I hope you get this worked out. It looks like you've got an interesting project and a lot of talent.

Thanks to all who have posted trying to help. It's hard to understand what I wanted in the beginning I wasn't all that clear now that I re-read it.
Anybody got any ideas about the smashing area I mentioned? |

Stick a board in that area and push on the door to slightly tweak it out that should work.

Wow, the king of belittling sure is sensitive when he himself feels belittled! Funny how that works
![]() I wasn't belittling you, just stating that I thought you misunderstood the question. You jumped to the conclusion that 1) he was installing rockers, and 2) that he had done it in a backwards order. I was just clarifying what I felt he was really asking. Chill out ![]() Dirt Dobber: I assume you are trying to locate the new hinges? Are your "suicide" hinges going to be adjustable? If so, as long as you get it close, I'd think you'd be okay. If not, it might be safer to hang the fenders and make sure everything lines up. Mine is tight at the top also, but I haven't installed the weather-stripping yet. The first time I overhauled my truck, one of the doors was very tight at the top also. I noticed that the window frame would flex a little when it was shut. However, it was way too tight for my liking, so i drilled out the spot welds that hold the frame in place, pushed it out slightly and re-welded them. Seemed to work pretty good. If you adjust the top hinge outward, does it throw off your door fit? If so, you may have to adjust only the frame. You also may be able to "bend" it outwards as Bland and Blue suggested. Good luck with it!

my hinges will be adjustable. I am just trying to get it as close as possible. they won't be adjustable in & out if that makes sense? I will see if i can adjust the window frame because it seems to be where my problem is. everything else looks good. I'm going to put fenders on it to make sure of that.
