Dana 44/Warn M7 Help

Cross-posted from 4x4 board http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=707410

After performing maintenance on my front brakes, I figured I might as well clean up the manual hubs on my front axle. I would like to remove the hubs and check/clean/re-grease all bearings. The problem I am running into now is that I cannot figure out how to remove the washer (with holes) between the two lock nuts.

Does this washer spin off or should it pull off? I am having trouble finding good rebuild/maintenance info online for these hubs. Also, when I re-assemble, any idea of lock-nut torque requirements?

As always , any help is greatly appreciated.

It's slotted and pulls off (no spin). Since you can't reach in there by hand, you'll need to use picks or small screwdrivers. Torque to 50 ft lbs while spinning then back off 1/4.

Re: Dana 44/Warn M7 Help

as stated it just pulls off. it is a locking washer. it has an inner mtap that goes in a key way on the spindle. coming off your side of the back nut there will be a locating pin that will go into the washer therefore locking it in place, crap in the key way or around the pin can help hold it up. sometimes it is oil between 2 machined surfaces that binds them together, like vacuum. and to top it off you can not get your fingers in there. you need something in there to break that bond. sometimes 2 screw drivers; one on either side of the washer and against the hub and a little pull. a dental hook will do it too

I had seen info that contained same specs but it didn't seem very concrete. Thanks for clarifying.
