Does a 2.5/4 drop need the exhaust tucked ?
Just wondering if I need to tuck my exhaust for my upcoming 2.5/4 drop ?
I'm getting ready to start my chassis rebuild (sandblasting etc. on my ground-up resto) and if I need to tuck my exhaust I of course want to do the main cross-member mod (4" holes and pipe install) before I blast, paint and reassemble... I want to keep this all-original truck as factory as possible, so I'm looking for some input/opinions (before I go cutting holes and making mods I don't really need). |

Re: Does a 2.5/4 drop need the exhaust tucked ?
Short answer is no, I have a 3/5 and my headers are a good two to three inches below the frame rail and I have never touched them. That being said if you want to go any further than 4/6 you will need to tuck the exhaust, I plan on doing that at some point (replace headers and new exhaust) as I will probably settle on a 5.5/7.5 static drop. But that will require lots of other parts, C notching the frame and so on, and I don't have time for that right now.

Good to know DBK, especially from a prairie-neighbor, I swear the same pot-holes and speed-bumps around here grow another couple inches every year.

No problem, SK roads make AB roads look like the autoban!
I'm running Headman Long tube ceramic right now, and will go with the Headman mid length, painted headers when I do it, can't recall the part number, but I have it written down somewhere.

Does anyone run their pipes from the headers under the cab or bed? I have heard people call them turndowns. Just wondering if this would be easier? Too loud?

I had turn downs in front of my rear axle . Very loud and dusty . I could literally see dust being blown from under my truck and between the cab and bed .

I have turn downs on my truck but I also have the exhaust tucked so I don't get much dust. It is loud though so if you have the room I would go over the axel. I have a 5 inch drop in the back and I ran into clearance problems with the axel.

When I did my 3"/4" drop, I switched to Hedman midlength headers. I hated how far the long tubes hung down. I had to have the exhaust re-routed because the existing pipes hit the rear axle after the drop.

The Hedman middies that I used were #69010.
