Carb question - Holley street demon?
I have been having some issues with the Qjet on my 402BB. I had a mechanic I know that is familiar with the older carbs tell me it's probably too far gone to be worth rebuilding. Was planning on going a different route but found a Holley Street Demon 650 basically new for a good price. Would it be worth looking into? Would I need to make any modifications to run this on my 72 Longhorn or would it even work?
I'm not too familiar with carbs in general. |

Re: Carb question - Holley street demon?
I'd say if you're running an otherwise generally stock setup get your Q-Jet rebuilt (unless important parts are missing or damaged) or get a new Q-Jet. Nothing wrong with a Holley but any time you change something there are always repercussions, and if you're not a carb guy in general, it's inviting problems to start "customizing".
If you don't mind worrying about fuel lines and linkage and choke and all of that, party on, but I always find it's easier to replace a square peg with a square peg.

Re: Carb question - Holley street demon?
Thanks for the input. I don't really want to mess with linkages, etc. He believes the throttle shaft is beyond being able to be rebushed?
Do you have a specific recommendation as to what you'd go with? |

IF your Q-jet is not rebuildable, get another Q-jet.

Re: Carb question - Holley street demon?
I have never seen a Q jet throttle shaft that was worn so much that it couldn't be repaired.
If this is the case, however, I would recommend getting another Q jet that is properly rebuilt and calibrated for your application.
