49 gmc original cab mounts on s10?
i'm getting my s10 chassis and my 49 gmc cab ready for the switchover. while inspecting underneath the cab of my 49, i noticed that the mounts are not flush with the floor. will i need to cut these out? I've pretty much followed the s10 how to thread to the letter so far. making mounts from skymags drawings.

I chose to just cut out the area where the mount sits and use a regular height cab mount.

in both sets of his drawings the rear mounts are 3/4" Taller from the s10 frame to the top of the mount.

Re: 49 gmc original cab mounts on s10?
sorry, not on the drawing I guess, its the third post in the swap how to,
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...52&postcount=3 he is a little off in the years, he calls 47-50 center mounts and 51-54 the ones with the reinforced floor/shackle mounts, but center mount was 47-48 and shackles started in 49. so follow his advice, make them 1/2" shorter (measured from the top of the fabricated mount to the top of the frame) and use a 1/2" spacer. or alternatively you could trim the braces just in the area where the s10 mount will go up in it. thats how I did mine.

Do you have any pics of your shackle can mounts cut down?
I already made the mounts without thinking for a center mount. I guess I'm going to sit it down on the shackles and mark it off, then lift the cab off and cut them Posted via Mobile Device |

I can maybe sneak a picture but its all bolted together and wont show much. they way you are talking about it is how I did it, lowered it and marked it, raised it and trimmed it with a grinder and cutoff wheel. easy peasy. the s10 rubber is only slightly larger than the area it needs to fit. you will need to drill a hole for the bolt, at least I did, there were two holes for the shackles and the mounts didnt line up with either, used a small drillbit first up from the bottom through the s10 mount to center it and then a unibit down from the top. you wont need a reinforcing plate either, the double metal in that area is already reinforced to support the cab.

Re: 49 gmc original cab mounts on s10?
just the rear, and I only trimmed up the reinforcing lip. you can see it in HULKs picture here, the cab is laid on its back but you can see the two holes for the shackle mount and how the reinforcing curves around them, I just trimmed those reinforcing lips flat to the rest of the doubler.
