Who out there has front disc brake/drop spindle conversion with 15" wheels???

I finally have the money to do the disc brake/ drop spindle conversion. All the kits I'm looking at though say "may not fit with factory 15" wheels." If you have thus setup please let me know what kit you got and what I need to be aware of. Thank you

That disclaimer is because the 60-70 6-lug oem steel wheels don't clear the disc brake caliper.
Any aftermarket or oem 71-87 6-lug wheel will work fine.

If you are going to go with CPP buy from someone like Summit Racing that offers FREE shipping.

Also, some of the original wheels will actually fit and work on the disc brakes if the center section of the wheel is skinny enough. I ran several original 3 hump wheels and a pair of original mags up front for quite a while without trouble. They either fit, or they don't.

Thank you, are there any kits you'd recommend over the CPP?

I have CPP drop spindles and disc brakes ( 71-72 C10) on my 65, I use 5lug Rallley wheels, 15*8', until I put the drop springs, 2" and then I went with 15*7 Ralley wheels.

Are you looking at the drop spindles or regular and are you planning on getting the modular or regular spindle. I have had modular and regular drop spindles for my 62. I had a set of 15 inch rally wheels from wheel vintigues. The regular drop spindles worked the modular drop spindles did not. You will need a larger diameter wheel if you want to use the modular spindles. I could not use your link that is why I am asking.

Okay, yeah I still don't know the difference between modular and regular.. haha I assume it's regular and yes the 2.5" drop spindle.

When you convert to disk breaks the wheels gets pushed out. The modular spindles are supposed to prevent that and they allow you to install a larger caliper if you want it.

Re: Who out there has front disc brake/drop spindle conversion with 15" wheels???

I like the modular and still have them on my truck. The only problem was when I tried to put my 15 inch rallys on them they would not fit. I am not sure how much the regular spindles push the wheels out. Not enough to bother me and I have 275's up front. The only reason I switched from regular to modular is because I installed a 1977 front clip and I needed new drop spindles. The regular ones I bout for my 62 are just sitting around. Also I think the modular spindle give you a 2 inch drop while the regular have a 2.5 inch drop.

Thank you, this is the Intel that I needed. I feel better about making a purchase now.

I have a Western Chassis drop spindles and Disc brakes. I went to the wrecking yard and got two 5 lug 15" steel wheels off the front of a chevy truck. They fit. What year I cant tell ya.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I do think it's related to the topic.
This question is for Chevy_mike.
You posted this in another thread.
Do you remember what the backspace was on these wheels you posted about?

Here is a pic to show the clearance and I did cycle the steering from lock to lock and no issues anywhere.

Does that clearance apply for just the wheel or does it not clear the brake also??

Yeah, these are Modular Drop Spindles with only a 2" drop. If they weren't Modulars, they wouldn't be pulling the wheels in so close to the A-Arm.

Thanks everybody for the help and input.. I got my kit ordered and should have it by the end of the week. Will post before and after pics. Also, thanks for the tip to order from Summit.. I saved about $200 on shipping that I can put towards new wheels.

I bought some 73-87 15" 6 lug rally wheels at a swap meet and the rear wheels are a pretty snug fit over the axle. Not sure if anyone else ran into this or not.

Did the cpp conversion on my 63, went with 16x8 wheels with 5" back spacing, had to grind a little off the spindles because wheels hit
