78-83 delay/pulse conversion kit for 73-77 trucks
Ok...let me explain this kit. My father in law wanted a factory style pulse/delay setup in his 77 GMC High Sierra currently being built by the two of us. Well, knowing scarce/factory 1977 specific delay stuff is at best marginal design wise, I've done some homework with using a 78-83 setup since they are slightly more plentiful. So, this kit gives you:
1.) delay wiper switch and module (78-83 type) 2.) harness extension from module to firewall interior bulkhead (these wires replace your existing 2-speed wiper leads 3.) harness adapter for the exterior firewall bulkhead and requires you to swap your existing wiper motor on 73-77 trucks to a 78-83 permanent magnet type. I have designed diagrams showing which cavities to swap your old leads in favor of mine and I chose to retain the 78-83 color codes also. You will notice on your 73-77 leads that you'll be splicing the WHT for power from my harness to your YEL for power from your 73-77 fuse panel for example. There is an additional wire to run from the bulkhead on the firewall side that is not present in your existing bulkhead. Lastly, you will need to enlarge the wiper switch opening on your dash to fit the slightly bigger wiper switch-a dremel and patience is the best method. All of these mods are explained in a GM color coded diagram which I include with each kit. Now, I'm just getting an idea who may be interested in a kit before I commit to building 15-20+ before I start running low on delay switches and modules. I plan to test this harness kit out this weekend on my father in laws' 77 GMC so I will post results soon. Meanwhile, let me know if you have questions or would like to be added to the "want list" for a kit after testing is completed. |

Sounds good to me. I hope the testing goes OK. I don't know the price but if it's reasonable then I will take one.

Re: 78-83 delay/pulse conversion kit for 73-77 trucks
Well I'm thinking a $85-95 range shipped. An upgrade like this I'd say is a worthwhile $100 or less type add-on. For now I can supply the modules and switches....eventually they could be tough for even me to source so I could do something like a $45-50 upgrade/conversion if somebody else wants to send me theirs to modify. This way you can source a 78-83 switch and module so I can modify it from there. The thing is the 6-cavity connectors on the delay setups are obsolete and I haven't found a source for them so youd have to be sure to get those too besides the switch and module.
But, I'll have more details after I test this prototype adapter harness. |

Re: 78-83 delay/pulse conversion kit for 73-77 trucks
I bench tested it just as it would be installed in the truck. Since we are a ways from putting all the interior back in, I figured I'd go ahead and test it before installing-works awesome! For people interested I'll be testing every switch and module this way prior to shipping. I have 14 kits available right now (inventory of modules and switches) with more coming so if you want one, I've got em.

Re: 78-83 delay/pulse conversion kit for 73-77 trucks
1978 2-speed wiper motor with modified leads which will let it have pulse/delay via my 78-83 kit.
One other little thing I found while swapping motors is that you also need to use the 78-up wiper linkage motor arm-the threaded diameters differ...other than that a direct swap. |
