Rust is usually the biggest issue... especially here in the rust belt UP may be a little better...

She's a beast, I love it! Saying that, go in with your eyes wide open. The price better be right. It needs rust repair, lots of it. I think I'd get it running and drive it like it sits for a while.

Good luck, Rg

i got him down to $2000 and he says that's bottom dollar... He started at 3200. Yeah my plan would be get it road worthy first then just finish it a little at a time!

I would look toward the western US and find a better one but it does look fun ,but expensive to repair. Look on the Craigslist thread currently running on here ,you might find a better truck.

Re: Should i get it or not??? 57 GMC

It all depends on what you want in a truck. do you want somthing you'll have to slave away on before you get to enjoy it? Or do you want somethign you can enjoy/drive while you work on it? Also, what are you wanting in a truck (custom, stock, etc)? Answer those 2 questions for yourself before you buy anything.

Btw, that looks like A LOT of work for a first project. Keep in mind that no telling what creative fabrication was done to get it on that chassis. Just because something may be "running" doesnt mean it's right or safe. IMO, look for another project that is complete on a stock chassis.

What years are you specifically looking for and budget?

You'll find plenty in that range. After a few Jeep (Just Empty Every Pocket) i thought i'd go back to classic trucks..and i don't knwo which has cost me more. hahaha.

That thing needs a lot more than tinkering. Unless you are a SUPER crafty master mechanic and fabricator with access to lots of free old parts, that would cost a lot to get even halfway done.

Re: Should i get it or not??? 57 GMC

It could be fixed..it all depends on how far you want to go with repairs..if you were going to fix everything I'm thinking the jeep would be cheaper.even at 2gs your looking at a lot of expense in repairs..if you could get a better truck without the cancer for 4-5000 it would be a cheaper way to go.just depends on how much your willing to spend on it..

Re: Should i get it or not??? 57 GMC

your first truck is junk, parts truck at best, not much on that body is useful
plus i'd question the frame install if it doesn't have 5000 miles on the build
and he hasn't integrated any system yet (brakes)

your 2nd choice indicates you have not picked a model truck to buy
that yr truck never had a v8 and takes a tad more fabricating to get one

are you an experienced welder/fabricator?
you own a welder?
