Hi all, I have 71 402 and did a HEI dizzy swap the other day. no problems went right in and fired right up, timed it, and shut it off to go do other stuff. later was going throught the dizzy box and saw a package for gear break in lube. My question is should I pull the dizzy and lube the gear, or just let it ride? the engine is far from new so I'm thinking its not a big deal.

If you already put a few miles on it, you might be ok. I had a gear go bad after 20 miles, Now I always lube gears, new or old

Thanks for the reply. already pulled it and lubed it and reinstalled. better safe then sorry.

I've been working as a professional auto technician for over 20 years and never heard another tech call a distributor a "dizzy". I've only seen it on car enthusiast forums.

As far as break in lube for the distributor gear, I don't think it's that important. I put some engine assembly lube on mine when I installed a new distributor, but I didn't on other cars I've done. And I've never had a problem with any of them.

I've heard several names for different things, but the funniest thing I ever heard was an "Australian" telling me about the push bars on all their vehicles when I first visited there.....
I asked a local what the funny push bars were on the front of their cars was for, in which he replied "Those are "Roo Bars", I was perplexed, told him "Don't you mean "Roll Bars"? he said "no mate, those are for when that big Kangaroo jumps out in front of your car and prevents a total loss of your ride" I couldn't stop laughing.....apparently, they call "Speed Bumps" "Sleeping Policemen".........
