Unique method of lowering
The rear of my new (to me) '86 short bed sits low with no lowering parts installed. I've never seen this method of lowering before. What do y'all think. It appears that they were bent in a press as the bends are very straight and uniform.

Re: Unique method of lowering
Looks very much like the way it was done back in the day..when you do it on the cheap...heat it with a torch til it collapses..I've seen several done that way when I was in school..not the best idea..

Re: Unique method of lowering
It worked but I would be to nervous to ride with them.
Btw it would be very cool wall or yard art. |

Re: Unique method of lowering
Pretty interesting. It does look like somebody used a press or a brake to bend them. I would be curious what that 2nd leaf does under flex. I would try to jack up just one wheel and see how it flexes or hook a trailer on it. It is probably safer than it looks. It's still a waste of time since new springs are only a couple hundred bucks.

Re: Unique method of lowering
Impossible to bend spring steel cold in a press. I've tried a few times. You will get a few degrees and then a violent snap of the metal. Those were torched for sure.

Re: Unique method of lowering
Yes, I knew a guy that heated his leafsprings and it looked just like that. Do you still live in Wetumpka?
