What do you guys use to protect your bed?

What do you guys use to protect your nicely painted beds? I'm tired of not being able to put anything in the bed because I'm worrying about scratching my paint. I think I will try to find a good, heavy rubber bed lining. I don't want any spray coating.

Any suggestions? Pictures?

Thanks

LS1, I had the same delima on my 77 Cheyenne. The bed was in great shape, and had been freshly painted. I could not bring myself to do a spray in liner, because the truck is restored, and it just wouldn't look right. Yeah, I know it's bagged with 20's, but that beside the point.

I finally decided to go with a bed mat. I bought a "light duty" mat from LMC. I tried to find a GM logo mat, but couldn't locate one. It looks as nice as anything else would, and it doesn't scratch the paint (much)...

Just a few things to think about ! If your truck bed dose not have a bed cover, then the liner you put in will blow around and rub on the paint. The rust starts there! IMO I am rebuilding a 1972 Chevy 4x4 and I am going to have the bed painted then I am taking it to get the Line-x sprayed in it. I am also haveing the underside done as well. NO MORE RUST !

You could buy one of the bed covers and put in one of the mats. I know it would be cheaper than the Line-x stuff. But the bed mat will blow around and start the paint rubbing thing. My bosses new dodge made it like 6 months and the paint in the corners was rubbed down to the primer !

Just some things to think about ! Have a good one !

in all of our work trucks we have had in the past years we have had Rhino sprayed in them, I have heard people saying it came up or it faded. But we have never had a problem w/ it, and if the Arizona sun didn't fade it after 10 yrs I don't think it is going to fade.

Someone on here has a Bedrug that looks slick. I have been looking for one to fit a fleetside. Alot of people have used hard plastic bedliners that fit pretty good but I don't like plastic.

another thing I have been seeing alot at the gas stations around here is if you have a hard plastic liner they wont let you fill gas cans while they are in the bed of the truck (it says on a sticker it's because of static electricity discharge w/ a pic of a stick man getting blown backwards, I will try to post a pic of it). I havent heard of anyone that has been blown up filling a gas can but it does make you think a little.

i've got a spray in bedliner, and wouldn't have it any other way. easy to clean, doesn't "hurt" the paint, and it adds value to the truck. yeah, it costs a little more, but it makes it easier to put stuff back there without worrying, "am i going to mess up my truck?"

I can say for a fact that plastic containers do create static and sometimes spark. I was emptying a 55 gallon plastic drum of fuel onto a hyandi one time and was blown twenty feet backwards when the spark caught. It hurt, but thankfully not too bad, and I learned my lesson. From then on, I fill all fuel cans on the ground with the nozzel touching the can.

Speaking from experience.

I think I might get a heavy, rubber mat for the floor of the bed. I can't imagine a heavy mat flapping around in the wind. Anyone know who sells a good one?

I have the "very heavy" mat on the floor and it starts to flap around 65 MPH on the highway. I can tell you first hand that at 100 MPH it flies out of the bed,LOL. Scared the hell out of me one night!. Luckily no cars were anywhere nearby.

Came intalled...

When I bought the '67 the fella who rebuilt it told me he just used white rustoleum in the bed. That way when it got torn up I could just redo once a year or so. Bed sides are turqouise like the truck, just the bed floor is rustoleum. I plan on putting in a wood bed in the distant future so I'll leave it like it is for now.

Many companies can match a spray in liner to the color of your truck. There is a guy here localy who has his liner flamed to match his truck it looks slick.

I have one and it flaps like crazy..... Going 70 down the highway has caused the back end of it (closest to the tailgate) to flap and hit my back window. If I didn't have a spare tire in my bed it would fly out. Do something else... IMO it sucks. BTW it's laying in my garage floor rolled up right now. I will be picking up some of that rattle guard spray in liner to try on my bed after I get it painted in a week or two.

What kind of options do I have for an original wood bed. The more I think about it, I either want to
convert the bed to an orignial looking wood bed
changing it over to a metal floor then LineX-ing the whole thing
or go all the way and get a good bed cover then carpet it.
What do you think?

I think a piece of plywood carpeted on both sides with maybe marine carpet may do what you want. Maybe you could somehow make it in a few pieces with hinges for easy removal/storage?

What about using some stick on velcro to hold down the rubber mat or even some convertible hood type poppers?
